Hi, Dear student, I’m Alice. I graduated from the CUNY Graduate Center with an MA in International Relations, from Bryn Mawr College with a BA in French literature and biological psychology, and from the Lycée Français de New York with the French Baccaluréat.

I am currently teaching English at the English-Speaking Union one on one. Prior to that I taught a Meetup group of six adult students for a year using the novel I wrote: Mid-Manhattan, for pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension. We did crossword puzzles for fun and vocabulary building. I have also been tutoring a Korean friend long-distance for many years in conversation, including the above topics. I provide different level synonyms for the words students don’t understand and always repeat them the next class. I encourage students to ask as many questions as they can.

I believe in the immersion method of learning languages - I am fluent in English and French and proficient in Russian and Spanish as well, having worked many years in the English Translation Service of the United Nations. I therefore value the benefit of conversation, for which I try to set aside some time every class. I am also offering tutoring in French, grammar, reading, pronunciation, conversation, and vocabulary. I always ask the students what their interests are; mine are international relations, travel, the environment, art and music. I would be glad to teach based on any workbook you the student provide, otherwise I can provide articles on chosen topics.

I would very much like to work with you. Please feel free to contact me with any suggestions or questions, and to book a lesson.

I have led an “English as a second language Meetup” and tutored a Korean friend in speaking with an emphasis on pronunciation, vocabulary including homonyms, and grammar. I think I am well qualified as I speak English, French, Russian and Spanish fluently and can usually understand and discern anyone's nationality on the basis of their accent. Working at the UN, I have had to listen to speeches in many accents and check statements against delivery. I am proficient in English grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing.
