I love translating my passion for reading to my students, especially the ones that claim they hate reading. When a parent tells me this I believe the child is really saying this is too difficult and I'm losing confidence. Seeing a child actually want to read after years of disengagement is so rewarding. I understand the impact reading can have on a child's academic success by enhancing reading fluency, comprehension, as well as unlocking creativity. Being exposed to other cultures through books peaked my interest in learning different languages such as Spanish; therefore, earning my Bachelors Degree in English and Masters in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages) was natural. I have learned that every child wants to read, they just need the tools to do so.
I have worked for the NYC Board of Education for 10 years and have learned invaluable instructional methods. . Applying the proven and tried Orton-Gillingham system has benefited my clients tremendously by engaging their visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning pathways.
My educational philosophy is based on thinking out the box, using cutting edge learning strategies that are essential in creating a stimulating learning experience while focusing on the emotional aspect of learning, as well as the academics. Humor is definitely an ice breaker and helps to bring down any barriers a student may have. I look forward to working with you and creating a wonderful, fun learning experience.
