I have a degree in English from LeMoyne College. I have held several different professional positions during my career. I have been a marketing/advertising executive for a major publishing house in NY. I have also worked as a technical recruiter, assessing candidates skill sets, their strengths and weaknesses and placing them with matching job opportunities. But one of my favorite positions has been that of substitute teacher for Hanover County schools. I found it extremely rewarding working with young minds and being able to share my love of literature, drama / theater, and English with them. I was also a Reading Olympics coach for five years while my daughter was in school.

My own love of English, literature and theater has helped shape how I approach all my lessons. I think about my past favorite English & literature teachers and why I admired them and learned so much more from them and try to incorporate that into my teaching/tutoring style.

While it is important to pass tests, I feel it is just as important, perhaps more so, to foster a deeper understanding of what it is your reading or learning about. Most teachers can get a student to read Shakespeare, for example, but it's the rare and exceptional teacher that can get that same student to actually understand and enjoy those same written words.
