As a high-school English teacher in an upstate New York public school, I taught 11th graders to integrate American Literature with studies in American history and culture. I also prepared them for the NYS English Regents, which 90% of my students passed. I taught two specialized courses on the college level to 12th graders: African-American Literature and Multi-Cultural Literature. Both of these courses integrated literature with cultural studies.
Students in all of my classes were required to write various types of essays as well as some creative pieces. And each student in all courses learned to research, document, write, and present research-based papers.
