I am a Retired Marine Officer and former College Educator with vast amount of experience in both one-on-one tutoring and mentoring. While on active duty with the Marine Corps I served as the Academics Officer for Marine Corps Service Support Schools; the Marine Corps' equivalent of a Vocational College. I've also taught at the College Level as well as having been the Director of Instructional Design for two major Technical Colleges. I've tutored and mentored learners of all ages.
My greatest joy is helping learners achieve that "Ah Ha" moment when everything starts to come together for them both intellectually and practically. I believe a special bond should be built between the learner and the tutor. One in which the learner feels comfortable and safe in the knowledge that it is alright to make mistakes as long as those mistakes are used as part of the learning process.
My philosophy on tutoring is to help the learner understand how the new information is used in the "everyday world," through real-world examples and hands-on exercises. Laughter and fun are an integral part of my tutoring style as those being tutored need to understand that learning new things can be a pleasurable and enjoyable activity now and for many years to come.
