As a parent and teacher of students with special needs, I was immersed in the world of understanding how students with learning disabilities learned, and how their specific challenges impacted them in school and everyday life. I have over 11 years experience in the public school sector working with students having varying disabilities including, but not limited to, specific learning disability, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, along with 8 years of tutoring the same. I primarily work with grades K-6 in the areas of Math and Reading to include comprehension and reading vocabulary.

My niche is closing achievement gaps through explicit instruction and focusing on the student's present level of performance as a baseline. I understand that every student is not a "one size fits all."

Over the years, I have helped many students realize their potential with a renewed self-confidence that can sometimes diminish with learning challenges. My colleagues describe me as passionate with an aptitude to effectively teach children with disabilities. As one of many in my field, I was nominated by my colleagues for Special Educator of the Year Award for which I received a certificate of recognition.

I look forward to serving your child's tutoring needs!

Very Knowledgeable specific to my son’s needs

Karen definitely was heaven sent. From our initial meeting she showed that she understood exactly what my son needed and quickly got him going along in the right direction. She is not only in touch academically but emotionally as well, which plays an important role in his success due to him having Autism. I know with her assistance our push to keep him going in a positive direction, is inevitable. If you’re looking for a tutor who can target the trouble areas and devise a plan all while understanding the student’s emotional needs... KAREN is the best choice!!! She ROCKS!

Great Tutor, Very patient

We scheduled a session with our second grader. After the session we received very insightful feedback on our son’s strengths and weaknesses, and identification of areas that were challenging for him. She was very on spot with some of her observations and spent real time with me explaining based on her experience with other students her assessment on where he is and what might help him. Our son struggles with focus and anxiety and she was very patient with him, offering encouragement and praise while being transparent with us about areas he needs more help. Overall I would recommend this tutor.

Knowledgeable and helpful tutor

Karen came in prepared to assess my child’s needs and areas of improvements. She didn’t keep my child inside a box and I love that , because every kid learns at a different pace and I truly love that about Karen. My daughter has a bit of areas of improvement in reading and Karen knew exactly what it was and what she need it. This is her 3 session and she’s much more excited to read now… Karen is truly a tutor I would recommend..

Wonderful tutor

Karen worked with my daughter over this Summer 2018. When I read her profile it was everything I was looking for. Karen kept great communication during this time and always provided feedback. My daughter enjoyed working with Karen and I found her to be knowledgeable, patient and effective. My daughter has learned several strategies and feels more confident in her abilities. I am already looking forward to continuing our sessions next Summer.

Excellent tutor!

I am very pleased with our tutor Karen. I stumbled across WyzAnt looking for a tutor for my 9 year-old son who has ADHD and struggling in math/reading. Karen's profile echoed what he needed. From our initial meeting I gathered that Karen was a patient, knowledgeable, and thorough tutor. She is truly a professional and passionate about developing my son for success while providing me with the tools to continue that growth. Grateful to have found her!

Awesome!

Ms. Karen is wonderful! A best kept secret. She is so patient with my son and they have really developed a bond. We struck gold when we found her. My son has some difficulties with his organization and reading due to his ADHD. He has made some real improvements in his writing and his STAR Reading Assessments as school. We love her do much we wish she could tutor math as well!
