I am an experienced, credentialed teacher and private tutor with a passion for working with high school and college students to master and enjoy the mysteries of history – how to succeed in your history courses, including AP courses – as well as to conquer and succeed at standardized tests (ACT, SAT, SSAT, PSAT, HSPT, PLAN.) Hi! I am an experienced, credentialed teacher and private tutor with a passion for working with high school and college students to master and enjoy the mysteries of history – how to succeed in your history courses, including AP courses – as well as to conquer and succeed at standardized tests (ACT, SAT, SSAT, PSAT, HSPT, PLAN.) I also work with students on perfecting their writing skills. As both a classroom teacher and private tutor, I excel at discovering each student’s individual learning style and tailoring lessons to meet each student’s needs.

My degrees are from Swarthmore College (B.A.) and the University of Wisconsin, Madison (M.A. and Ph.D. in American History) and I have over 15 years of experience teaching in high school and community college. My success rate in raising students’ grades and achieving top AP scores is high. Trained by leading test prep companies, I have been tutoring test prep for over ten years, and my students are delighted with the considerable improvement in their scores.

My greatest joy is working one on one with students and discovering how they learn and what resources, from my vast supply (which even includes plush creatures to illustrate how the Bubonic Plague was spread!), will work best to make the subject fun and understandable for them.

On a personal note, I am married and my son just graduated from the University of Chicago Law School. I live in Mill Valley with my husband and our Siberian cat, Katya.

I've taught AP U.S. History for 10 years, and have successfully passed the College Board's Audit. My students' pass rate on the AP exam is excellent. I am also well versed in the new requirements and challenges of the newly revised AP U.S. History course and exam.

Knows how to teach! Knowledgeable, passionate, and very skilled AP history teacher!

Mimi is extremely knowledgeable in her field of history (she has a PHD!) and in what we have selected her for - AP European History. In addition to this, and of utmost importance - she knows how to teach! She is not only charming, she is thorough in her explanations, delivers it in a clear direct manner with concise communication, seems to warm up to anyone she encounters, has a great deal of enthusiasm which is inspiring, can get down to basics very quickly, assesses the situation, is fair in her rate structure, doesn't waste a second of time and we are extremely pleased. She interacts to create a fun learning environment. We have only had two sessions, but my high school sophomore daughter is already pleased with the progress they are making, which will carry over into other subjects in terms of balancing time and what to focus on with the vast amount of material to cover. (Note I have a very bright child who is over booked and over worked, yet Mimi knew exactly how to work with her and to meet the challenge!) Our goal is to successfully complete AP Euro History prepared for the exam next May with the highest grade possible in the course and we think Mimi will have no trouble getting us there, if we stick to her plan. We have signed up for weekly tutoring sessions. I met with a couple of other tutors and spoke to several on the phone. Without a doubt Mimi was the best suited and most experienced in teaching kids and has the skill, knowledge and passion to do so. I would imagine she would be a success with a broad age range and skill set just given her obvious capabilities as an excellent teacher.
