About Ho Jin

Bio

I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Korea University, which is one of the top three universities in South Korea. I have spent the past 12 years conducting research in the structural biology at Children’s Research Hospital and for 7 years in the Advanced Analysis Center at Korea Institute of Science and Technology. My overall experience is diverse and includes but is not limited to, structural biology, chemical biology, and biological chemistry, analytical chemistry, and computational chemistry....

I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Korea University, which is one of the top three universities in South Korea. I have spent the past 12 years conducting research in the structural biology at Children’s Research Hospital and for 7 years in the Advanced Analysis Center at Korea Institute of Science and Technology. My overall experience is diverse and includes but is not limited to, structural biology, chemical biology, and biological chemistry, analytical chemistry, and computational chemistry. I have co-authored nearly fifty publications and have also taught and supervised undergraduate and graduate students. I have also taught General Chemistry and GOB at the colleges in the USA. Based on my research and teaching experiences, I can confidently teach the following courses: General Chemistry/Organic Chemistry/ Biochemistry.

And also I have experienced in teaching the Korean language for 10 years (It is my native language).

I prefer to tutor at public libraries, such as the Germantown Community Library.

I have been a teacher at a Korean School (Memphis), which is sponsored by the Korean government and is registered as a non-profit institute in TN, around 10 years. My students are very diverse in terms of ages and cultures. I am tutoring an undergraduate student who wants to focus on speaking and listening skill. As a higher educated people with intensive experience, I am qualified to teach Korean language.

Organic chemistry is a chemistry to explore the structure, properties, and reactions of organic compounds. To study the structure of these compounds, several spectroscopies such as nuclear magnetic resonance (nmr) and infrared spectroscopy have to be used. I have a PhD in chemistry and spent around 20 years in chemistry field conducting the theoretical and experimental experiments that are essential to organic chemistry. I like to teach students at the basic high school or college level.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

Ho-Jin is committed to helping his students to learn Korean correctly and is patient and diligent at the same time. He also allows me to learn phrases out of class so that I can talk a little better with a friend. He is affordable and the best value, in my opinion, for learning Korean.

Ho-Jin is very patient and took his time and slowly pronounced each word so that I would be able he started me taking baby steps with the vowels of the Korean alphabet. Learning Korean With A Patient and Encouraging Tutor

I am a slow learner and Ho-Jin is very patient. What I also appreciate is that when he asks questions in Korean, he speaks in natural cadence and speed. It is very difficult but it is great listening practice. If however I am totally NOT getting it, he will repeat slower and often (thankfully). I like the various teaching aids he uses during lessons which make learning fun. I am enjoying my lessons with Ho-Jin very much. I know I have a very long way to go but am hopeful that I will become fluent enough to communicate in Korean confidently some day.

Knowledgable and very clear in instructions

Worked on reviewing Gas Laws and the conversation of ppmv to ug/m^3. Also worked on converting molecules/ m^3 to ppmv. He worked through each piece of Chemistry and Physics before the problems to help me understand the basics. Then concluded with the problem tieing everything he reviewed into the problem to solve it.

Great first class!

I had my first class with Ho-Jin today, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ho-Jin is VERY patient and thorough. Since I know no Korean, he started me taking baby steps with the vowels of the Korean alphabet. He used a variety of audio and visual tools and reinforced points several times - which I appreciated. I'm very eager to continue, with his help, till I have mastered reading, writing and speaking Korean!
