My early iT career began while working on my Computer Science degree while at the University of Illinois. During that time, I worked at NCSA and was on the technical support staff for one of the earliest web browsers, Mosaic for the Macintosh. After completing my degree, I began my career in IT by working first as technical support and then transitioned to a Systems Analyst role at an engineering company. I was certified with Microsoft SQL Server early on and have continued to work with that product since. I worked with various programs, such as VIsual FoxPro, PHP, and Visual Basic, where I could apply my computer science education. My most significant experience is with SQL Server, where I have developed an aptitude for writing queries and solving business problems. Eventually, I applied to a graduate program in Information Technology Management, where I achieved a 4.0 GPA.
Due to my relationship with the IT management degree at St. Ambrose, I was invited to serve as adjunct faculty teaching in-person graduate-level classes in the same degree program. Some of the students were undergraduate upper classmen, but most students were working professionals in their early-to-mid career.
Later in my career, I have been serving as a department manager with 2-to-4 full-time employees. I often have had to mentor the new employees in various aspects of our computer systems and business operations. We are in a hybrid working mode, where we are in the office a couple of days a week, but the rest is remote. I am comfortable working with other via Microsoft Teams, Zoom, etc.
