Sessions are typically 1-2 hours, 1-2x weekly, for homework, subject-material guidance, and test review. But it's up to you! I don't provide materials, although I can give suggestions.

We use Google Meet for face-to-face interaction and screen-sharing, as well as an online whiteboard where we post documents, paste screenshots, and see each other’s writing in real time.

* MY APPROACH *

Focused and encouraging, enthusiastic and personable, I've helped students reach that "light-bulb moment" countless times. I've got your back! Content knowledge is only part of the puzzle, though; problem-solving skills are crucial, so I share tactics on being methodical and help in constructing a system. Check my testimonials to hear from my students!

Effective tutoring is not a one-off, stopgap solution; I often end up working with my students long-term, through their high-school and early-college years.

* BACKGROUND *

Attended Princeton for molecular biology. Completed the IB program as salutatorian out of 500+.

Tutored since HS (2004) in a variety of subjects. Mostly students in grades 6-12 or college / grad school. In Chicago since 2017, I've worked with students in CPS, Latin, Parker, Northwestern, and more.

Highlights: 800 SAT Verbal and SAT Math Level 2; 740+ on other SAT sections and Subject Tests; GRE - 164 Verbal, 169 Math; 5 on AP Bio, Chem, Calc, U.S. History, Lit, and Spanish.

Certified in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL); co-instructor at a private university in rural China for 3 months.

Outstanding tutor

Stephanie has been tutoring my son, a high school junior, in math, physics, and AP Chemistry. She has helped him tremendously. She is patient and is willing to take extra time when needed and even offered an online session when he needed help and she was out of town. He has gone from feeling confused and overwhelmed to feeling confident and performing well. I have 3 kids and have hired tutors before. Stephanie is the best.

Amazing tutor

My daughter literally said “I have aha moments when Stephanie explains chemistry. She not only asks for the answer but then asks why? I didn’t know why, so she made a chart explaining the why and it made so much sense.” My daughter has been able to understand previous material and feels confident getting ready for her final. I highly recommend!

Knowledgable & patient tutor

Stephanie is working with my daughter in the days leading up to a grueling week of 6 IB exams. She stepped right in to help with some of the trickiest concepts in both IB Math & IB Chemistry. She's made time for us and wasn't daunted by the urgency of our needs. Tutoring is patient and helpful and both supports and challenges my daughter's learning style. Very gratful!

Patient and extremely helpful

The class was absolutely perfect. She was able to teach me what I had done wrong in my exams as well as how to come upon the right answer for that question and for any other that was similar. The pace of the lesson was perfect and really allowed me to understand and use the new information I had just learned.

Very promising first session

First session was great. Stephanie was perceptive about what my daughter didn't know, and what she needs to do to get up to speed. Very comfortable with the material--10th grade chemistry. Spent a lot of time with her to get her ready for a quiz. My daughter immediately responded positively to her teaching style.

AP Physics and Advanced Algebra tutoring

My son started his tutoring lessons with Stephanie in April 2019 for AP Physics and Advanced Algebra with Trigonometry. She quickly identified his strengths and weaknesses and taught him on effective problem solving techniques that may be applicable to any STEM advanced or AP courses. She also challenged him with several problems that he was not attempting to solve by himself. My son's grades improved from 85% (B) to >90% (A) in a matter of 2 months, a remarkable improvement, considering more that half the semester had already been graded. He consistently started scoring in 95%-100% in all of his quizzes, tests and exams. Stephanie is a brilliant tutor. Highly recommended!!
