I earned a Bachelor's degree in Physics from Caltech and a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Washington. For 10 years I've been a volunteer tutor and math coach, working with elementary, middle, and high school students. I coached 3rd and 4th graders at local and regional competitions and MOEMS ... 5th and 6th graders at AMC-8 ... 6th graders at MATHCOUNTS Chapter and State competitions ... and 7th and 8th graders at all of those contests. And more.

I'm also a teacher at Art of Problem Solving Academy -- teaching middle-school and high-school contest math, Algebra 1, prealgebra, and honors 5th-grade math. I've taught at the college level as well, as a teaching assistant for mechanical-engineering and climate-science courses. I'm also a math-contest problem writer.

My math courses in school ranged from Algebra 1 to AP Calculus AB and BC to differential equations and complex calculus and more. My physics courses ranged from AP Physics to quantum mechanics, fluid mechanics, physical chemistry, thermodynamics, and beyond.

For as long as I can remember, I've been helping others learn and enjoy math, engineering, and science. It has always been my passion. Now, after training as a scientist and after 20 successful years in the software industry, STEM education is my full-time commitment. I love seeing the "Aha!" moments when students understand something they didn't get before.

Whether teaching college students, K-12 students, engineers on the job, or fellow classmates, my principles have always been the same:

Understand where the student is now and what their goals are.
Present the concepts in language that makes sense to them.
Be encouraging and patient and positive, always.
Keep things as simple as possible.
Keep a sense of humor! (I love silly math jokes.)

Whether you need help for an upcoming test or an entire course, I look forward to helping you!
