Welcome,

Thank you for viewing my profile! I hold great interest in working as your tutor. Allow me to tell you a little bit about myself! I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

Beginning in October 2021 and continuing through August 2022, I served in the position of Virtual (First Grade) Teacher at EdOptions Academy (a 100% virtual academy operated through Edmentum). From September 2016 through August 2020, I enjoyed working in the position of Preschool/K4 Teacher.

While between roles, during the 2020-2021 academic year, I worked as a WyZant Online Preschool Teacher/Tutor, for a Pre-School aged student. Much like the students in my Preschool/K4 Classroom and I did, this student and I explored the following concepts together:
1. Letter and number recognition
2. Phonics
3. Counting practice
4. Listening Skills
5. Numerical concepts

Early on in my career, while working as a Substitute Teacher, I had the privilege of working as an In-Home-Tutor with the same Elementary Student for three consecutive school years. I watched this student begin with a strong dislike for school and move forward to accomplishing "Honor-Roll".

As a tutor, much like as a Preschool/K4 Teacher and Virtual Teacher, I love to experience "look what I can do" moments with students. In order to experience such moments, students must first have to the "tools". I will strive to assist each student with acquiring the base for the best "tools" and study skills for them. Following our time together, your child will then utilize those "tools" through the entire educational career.

Remember, just as no two identical snowflakes have never fallen, no two students learn in the exact same way! If you have enjoyed learning about me and would like to inquire about services, please do not hesitate to reach out. I look forward to the possibility of working together with you!

Best,
Mrs. Day

Grammar

Grammar

As an Early Childhood Educator, I speak properly with my students, during each school day. If I, as their Teacher, utilize proper Grammar, then they will model my behavior and speak properly as well. At the Early Childhood level, this strikes me as very important, since most students have first exposure to language through the spoken word. In addition to currently teaching at the Early Childhood level, I also have experience with working as an elementary tutor. During each session, if I noticed a grammatically incorrect sentence, then the student and I immediately worked to correct the mistake. After correcting the mistake, the student and I would correct other sentences with similar errors. Overtime, the student began to notice and self-correct Grammatical Errors. As an educator, I believe that two most important qualities in Grammar Instruction include Modeling and rules familiarity.

Elementary Education

Elementary (K-6th),

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a B.S. in Education with a major in Elementary and ECH Education and a PA Teacher's License. In addition to the qualifications above, I have served as an In-Home Elementary Tutor. I served one student, for three consecutive school years. During this time, the student improved from "academically frustrated" to Honor Roll every grading period. As an experienced Tutor, I strongly believe that working one-on-one with a struggling student plays a key role in "academic improvement". I look forward to speaking with you soon about assisting your child in developing academically.
Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I am a certified Elementary Educator, living in the state of Pennsylvania. In addition to working as an Elementary Substitute Teacher, I have also served as an In-Home Tutor. I began working with a student in Tennessee, during the students Third Grade year. I concluded with the student, when the student entered Grade Six. Through serving as an Elementary Substitute Teacher as well as tutor, I have very valuable experience in working with students in both Elementary Mathematics and Reading. I look forward to assisting your child in gaining academic momentum and success!
Elementary Science,

Elementary Science

As an educator, I love science. The hands-on nature makes this a very exciting subject to explore. Before deciding to become an educator, I actually wished to work for NASA! I believe that teaching other subjects such as mathematics in a hands-on nature may allow for a more rapid retention. I look forward to getting to work and exploring our world with your child.

Reading

While attending Clarion University, I engaged in a class entitled "Teaching Reading". As a result of this course, I have gained techniques for all areas or Reading Instruction such as, but not limited to, Phonological Awareness and Word Structure. Through experience as both a Substitute Teacher and Elementary Tutor, I have had many valuable experiences with engaging with students in Reading instruction. In addition to Elementary Reading, I also have experience with teaching Reading at the Early Childhood Education level. As a current Early Childhood Educator, I introduce basic Reading Concepts to students daily, through such activities as Circle Time, Teacher Table, and Center Time.
Study Skills,

Study Skills

For three consecutive academic years, I served as an in-home tutor for an elementary student. Weekly, we would prepare for a spelling test together. Each week, we utilized both written Repetition and verbal recitation, as the study skills to prepare. Since the student and I worked together two days per week, the possibility existed that we could not prepare together the day before a for a test. Therefore, I would encourage the student to begin studying in advance. In addition to having experience as an in-home tutor, I also have experience with not only enhancing the study skills which students possess (as demonstrated through the paragraphs above), but also introducing new Study Skills.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

While serving as an In-Home Tutor in Tennessee, I often studied Vocabulary with the student. I would utilize the following steps with the student, while studying vocabulary in READING: 1. Locate the words WITHIN THE TEXT 2. PREDICT word meanings 3. READ the text together 4. DISCUSS the true meanings of the word Dependent upon the subject, I often utilize a different method for teaching VOCABULARY.

English

Grammar, Vocabulary, and Writing play three key roles in successfully utilizing the English Language. Therefore, as it relates to those three components, I view the following as important in order to successfully teach English. Grammar: As an Early Childhood Educator, I speak properly with my students, during each school day. If I, as their teacher, utilize proper grammar, then they will model my behavior and speak properly as well. At the Early Childhood level, this strikes me as very important, since most students have first exposure to language through the spoken word. Vocabulary: I utilize the following steps with the students, while studying vocabulary in READING: 1. Locate the words WITHIN THE TEXT 2. PREDICT word meanings 3. READ the text together 4. DISCUSS the true meanings of the word Writing: During my time at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, I heard it said, "Reading is Writing and Writing is Reading". If a student lacks the ability to read the written word, then the ability to Write will not develop.

During my time at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, I heard it said, "Reading is Writing and Writing is Reading". If a student lacks the ability to read the written word, then the ability to write will not develop. With that in mind, as an Early Childhood Educator, I allow students a variety or opportunities to see individual letters. Such opportunities include Circle Time, Center Time, and Teacher Table. Young children, after seeing a letter often wish to attempt to write the letter. In addition to this experience as an Early Childhood Educator, as a tutor I always model for students the correct way to both speak and write language.
