Hi, everyone! I'm a graduate of McGill University, Honours B.A. in Economics. While my main focus may be on economics, I chose the discipline because I felt it was a way to put my passion and talent for mathematics to good use. It allowed for intellectual challenge, while also offering opportunity to continue far in mathematics as elective courses. The contexts I was exposed to mathematics in led me to developing a multi-dimensional style of both learning and teaching the discipline, and often I've found that I'm able to help others or receive help by getting a new perspective on whatever problem I'm faced with. I found personally that the way to succeed in math is not by memorizing formulas, but to begin with a solid foundation in pattern observation. A formula is only as useful as the situations you're able to apply it in, and you will get much further when you're able to spot variations of patterns instead of only recognizing textbook example patterns. Contrary to what many believe, there are many different ways to solve every kind of math problem, and I enjoy helping students discover their perspective on mathematics as well as offering mine.

Over my years, I've taken six semesters of calculus, four semesters of advanced econometrics and statistical methods, and six semesters of calculus-based advanced microeconomic theory. Additionally, I maintained a 3.8 average in all of my core courses in Economics and Mathematics. Though there were no professional opportunities for tutoring, I often tutored classmates and fraternity brothers who were in courses I'd taken. I used tutoring as an opportunity to help those around me, as well as to reaffirm my own knowledge of the subject. Tutoring works out to be a valuable learning opportunity for both of us! I work the best overnight, so I'm available late nights (10pm-4am) for those who are night owls or just need some last minute prep, but I can also make time for morning lessons if you need! Send me a message and we can see if I'm able to help you succeed.

Amazing and patient!

I have a few challenges when it comes to learning and understanding some subjects, when someone works with me they absolutely must have patience and understand the anxiety that any type of math gives me. When I found that I had to take statistics for my degree, I was very scared and didn't know how I would come to understand the concepts, let alone be able to focus. Jacob was able to teach me from the beginning, in a way that I would be able to learn, it's like he tailored our lessons completely based on my needs and not just on the subject. I'm confident enough to do my assignments without always needing help and it means the world to me that I can understand.

Above and beyond tutor

Jacob is helping my student with AP Macroeconomics. He is patient, understanding and flexible , going beyond the textbook material to use real world examples which make the material more relevant and understandable to my student. He works to her pace and has really made the effort to connect with her so she enjoys learning! I highly recommend Jacob K!

Saved my grade!

I worked with him for 3 hours over the course of two days (the two days leading up to my final exam), and he absolutely saved my grade! I thought for sure I was going to fail the class but with merely 3 hours of working with him, he helped me genuinely understand each concept and I walked in and out of my final exam feeling confident in my intermediate microeconomic abilities! I will absolutely be using him on a weekly basis for my next micro class. I cannot thank you enough!!! HE IS THE BEST! Everyone use him!

Jacob is nice and helpful!

As we reached out to Jacob, he responded quickly, and worked with our schedule flexibly. He is knowledgeable and helpful, he explained the concept clearly and patiently, and shared the study material with us generously. Recommend him to anyone who may need help.

Parent

Great experience helping my 9th grader through some challenging math concepts. Jacob was super-patient and accommodating about our schedule and connected with my teen who had been very stressed out about math class, but emerged from the session feeling much more confident and positive.

Very knowledgeable and well spoken tutor! Excellent tutoring all around!

We worked on hypothesis testing, calculation of confidence intervals, and correlation and coefficients of correlation. He did a great job breaking down the topics for my better understanding.

BEST Experience with a Tutor I have EVER Had!!!!!

I am taking Intro to Stats this quarter and have been struggling all quarter. I need help on a write up assignment and just general help understanding formulas and terms. So basically in the hour I spent with Jacob I learned more from him then I have all quarter from my Professor. He met me where I was at, used pictures and didn't over complicate things! Most importantly he was kind and patient. I have felt so incompetent and was so nervous that working with a tutor would just make me feel worse, I actually felt more confident after our session! My only negative is I didn't find him sooner! I will use Jacob again and have already referred him to others.
