I have taught the CAHSEE English prep classes and 80% of former students passed the exam the first attempt. The five paragraph essay is my forte. Let me teach you how to write well. Other subjects I am proficient in teaching are American and World History; American Government; Earth, Life, and Physical Science; Biology; Basic Math; Pre-Algebra.; Algebra. 1; Reading; Writing; Literature. Please contact me to assist your student in making progress and succeeding this school year.

In addition to tutoring academic subjects, I am also a certified Paralegal. I am certified to tutor subjects pertaining to law. I formerly tutored college students in Political Science. It is great fun to discuss law.

The summer months are difficult for special needs kids. Often, they don't maintain their skills during vacation. The first months of school can be frustrating for them. I am available during the summer months to keep these student's skills sharp and to prepare for grade level changes.

This is the second school year that I have registered with WyzAnt as a tutor. The referrals I have received are excellent. Thank you to all families who employed me last year. I am looking forward to another wonderful year with the students in North County.

Grammar,

Grammar

The mechanics of grammar can be tedious, but the results of excellent grammar usage elevate writing to the superior level. The writer who commands grammar will present well written material no matter what the subject matter or the audience. Writing and grammar are my passions. I loved it when I taught this subject to elementary, high school and college level students. Although out of the classroom, I continue to write for attorneys and entertain my friends with amusing stories.
Proofreading,

Proofreading

In addition to teaching writing skills, I work as a paralegal. One of my duties in this capacity is to proofread, suggest edits and revisions for documents before submission to court or other attorneys. My writing skill enables me to catch ineffective word use and to make suggestions for dynamic finished products. Friends and colleagues seek out my "eye" before sending personal correspondence out the door. The attorneys that I have worked for have a high regard for my writing expertise. I would love to make your writing stand out!

I have a degree in Elementary Ed from Texas Woman's University. I have completed academic classes in Reading, Children's Literature and Writing Skills. Post graduation I have participated in three different and intensive reading improvement programs. Reading development was my focus when I worked with a large Southern California charter school. One of my favorite areas to teach/tutor is writing development. My former students learned to excel in writing after working with me. I have unusual ways of explaining Math that enables elementary students to "get it".

Study Skills

Study skills are part of helping every student learn to become an independent learner. The ability to develop an effective study skill plan is based on understanding the unique learning style of each student. I completed multiple seminars in learning styles while I was actively teaching in the classroom. In my approach to teaching study skills, I work with the students learning style and their personal strengths to determine a plan that works best for each student. Once my students understand how to study effectively, they succeed.

SAT Reading,

SAT Reading

In recent years, the SAT Reading and Writing has undergone changes and I do not believe that public schools have current materials in alignment with these changes. In working with an organization that has aligned with these changes, I have learned better ways to prepare for this test. Test taking strategies are more important than ever before and I would welcome the opportunity to coach your student to best SAT outcome possible.
Writing,

Writing

Mastering essay writing is a critical component for all high school students. Writing a college application essay is the perfect way for the student to reveal something unique about themselves to the admissions board. However, not all students know how to put together their compelling story within the confines of a minimum and maximum word count. I have assisted students that I have tutored over the last four years with writing amazing essays. I excel at helping them find their voice and polish their prose into pieces that they are proud to submit. I find the hidden gold. This process is such a rewarding experience for me and quite fun when the project is finished, I would welcome the opportunity to assist your student in writing their best story.

ADHD

In addition to being a Special Ed teacher, I am also the Mom of an ADD/ADHD son. I am well aware of the impact that this condition has on learning and on self-esteem. Through my education degree and my personal experience (20 years), I have devised learning strategies and time management tips that enable these students to improve steadily in the classroom curriculum. I also will attend IEP meetings with families that request my services to gain a better understanding of goals and objectives. I am also a paralegal, which gives me insight into the legal ramifications of dealing with special needs children.
Dyslexia,

Dyslexia

Dyslexia is grouped within the special needs category and is a reading disability. In addition to having a degree in Special Ed., I have trained in Dallas, Texas at the Shriner's Hospital Reading Intervention Clinic. When I worked on staff at a large charter school, I completed two other intensive reading intervention programs. Reading should be fun, but for some children it takes longer to get the basics. I would love to help your child bridge those gaps and be a success at reading. Reading well is the key to success in school.
Special Needs,

Special Needs

I have a degree in Special Ed. I worked in a Charter school for six plus years. When I was a resource specialist, I administered the Wide Range Achievement Test and the Woodcock-Johnson academic battery. I analyzed the test results and along with the Educational Psychologist, developed and wrote the IEP goals and objectives for my students. My students enjoyed success and without fail, met their benchmark goals and objectives throughout the school year.

Test taking involves a strategy based on individual strengths and weaknesses. I analyze prior testing along with practice tests to find the places to build success into taking the GED. #1 tutor!

Elizabeth is a gold mine. She understands my son and is helping him with the GED. She talks to him like a young adult which my son appreciates very much. He comes home from lessons positive and motivated. Elizabeth continues working with my son. He passed both sections he took of GED. I believe it is the confidence she has been giving him.

Beth Is Adept Across Multiple Subjects

Beth tutors my daughter in all subjects from AP Psych to preparing her for the SAT. My daughter has a learning difference that impacts her ability to hear and decode. Beth’s talent has been teaching her in a way that complements my daughter’s learning style. She is helping my daughter to achieve more than she ever thought possible. Thank you Beth!

Knowledgeable, patient, firm, and fun

Beth worked with my daughter on reading/reading comprehension. We discussed utilizing a computer based program she has, as well as books my daughter needs to read over summer for school. Beth has a wonderful, engaging personality and asks my daughter about things she is interested in such as her competitive cheer team. Beth is also great with our dogs, which is a huge bonus since they are very important to my daughter, and often calm her down during homework/study time.

Beth is always so patient

Beth is always so patient and comes to the tutoring session ready to roll with whatever subject needs to be covered. My daughter really responds well to Beth and we have been able to uncover other learning concerns, just due to Beth's knowledge with children and their learning behaviors, in particular reading disabilities. Thank you once again Beth!

Very patient

Ms. Beth is a wonderful addition to helping my son. She is very knowledgeable, patient and provides that structure my son needs because, she understands his learning disability. She is very committed to helping her students be successful. She is outstanding in bringing forth complicated material and worked with my son to be sure he understood the concepts of writing a good essay, book report or power point presentation. My son and I look forward to continue success this school year with Ms. Beth. She is truly outstanding and we are very fortunate to be able to work with he! Also when the times comes for him to prepare for the SAT Ms. Beth will be the one I call on.
