Hi! I'm Marcella and I have been teaching since 2007. I graduated from New York University with a Masters in Education and hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Biological Evolution, and a Minor in Spanish from Pennsylvania State University (2004). I have taught children in grades K-4 as either a Classroom Teacher or Learning Specialist, as well as English as a Second Language to Children and Adults. I have received over a hundred hours of professional development from prominent institutions such as Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, Math in the City, Wilson Reading Program, and the Orton Gillingham Method.
What’s my approach to a successful tutoring experience?
1. Establishing a connection -- I get to know my students’ interests, and show genuine interest in their academic and mental well-being.
2. Thoughtful and structured lessons -- Based student needs, I plan structured and engaging lessons. As much as possible, I connect the learning to their interests and world experience.
3. Clear Communication with Parents -- I create a shared document of what I’m teaching and my observations. I’m also available to answer questions or provide support to parents so they can assist their child in between sessions.
