I love helping students understand material and find joy, satisfaction, and success in learning. After graduating from Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC with a major in elementary education and a minor in religion, I became certified in both elementary education and early childhood education. I taught remedial reading and math to students in 7th and 8th grade for a year at Bostic Elementary in Bostic, NC, and I taught 5th grade math and science for a year at Union Mills Middle School in Union Mills, NC. Then I chose to stay home with my baby, and I tutored an elementary student and a high school student in reading. When my oldest child was old enough for school, his dad and I made the decision to homeschool, and I have taught six of my children from preschool through 12th grade. They are now in college or have completed college, and they each received academic scholarships. I still homeschool my youngest child. We enjoy learning!

I want my students to "get" the concepts taught and will try different approaches and explanations until a concept is understood. My goal is to give students both the how-to-do-it and the why-this-works so that they have the ability and confidence to do similar work later on their own. I care about my students. (I am a Christian, and I pray for my students, too.) I would love to help you or your child succeed and enjoy learning!

I understand math rules and can communicate them effectively. I like the consistency of math! I have taught elementary math, prealgebra, and algebra 1 concepts to a variety of learners.

Communication is so important. I love helping students appreciate and understand how to communicate well, using words to convey nuances of meaning. I have successfully taught Bible, English, grammar, vocabulary, and literature to young children through high school graduates.

Please don't hesitate to contact me for more information or to schedule lessons. I'd love to help you turn something that has been a struggle into a joy!

I have a B.S. in elementary education. I have taught five of my own children math from kindergarten through high school. I have also taught math to remedial and mainstream public school students. I provide different explanations and examples to help students understand what they're learning. I also encourage students and help them memorize basic math facts, like the multiplication tables, since that makes such a big difference in doing well in math. I'd be glad to work with your student to help him or her fulfill his mathematics potential!

Shannon is a very knowledgeable tutor with great patience.

First day of tutoring my grandson was good for him and insightful for me. Shannon gave me her thoughts on the plan for my grandson's sessions and we are on a clear path to catching up with anything missed.
