I am available for online sessions due to the COVID-19 threat. I have been conducting online sessions for years now so I guarantee the quality of the learning experience. I am a highly qualified and dedicated teacher with more than 15 years of experience in tutoring students of all ages and levels of education, including undergraduate and graduate students. My strengths lie in my ability to understand how students learn and I have decided to dedicate my time towards educating the upcoming generation. I am most interested in changing the way my students perceive themselves when approaching math. I really care about my students, as their success is one of the main joys of teaching math. Throughout the years, I have had the most rewarding experience when my students, besides turning their grades around, feel empowered to the point they become a math resource to their classmates. I take my classes very personally and work together with parents to identify my students' areas of weakness. I am a strong believer that by bringing a holistic approach to tutoring, tutors are successful in changing students' views of life in the most important aspects, preparing them to face the future with more confidence to achieve excellence in everything they do in life.

To me every student is born as an artist; the problem is to remain an artist once they grow up. If there is a difficulty for students in doing something, it is because the fundamentals were not learned properly. Math is like a set of building blocks. No new concept is totally independent; rather it is an extension of a previous one. Students shouldn’t simply memorize formulas; they should understand where formulas are coming from. In this process, the brain gets trained for future problem-solving situations. When I work with Freshman and Sophomore students, I am conscious that I am actually preparing them for the SAT/CAT and postgraduate tests such as the GMAT and GRE.

As an expert in U.S standardized test, I offer web-based and in-person preparation tutoring servi

GMAT,

GMAT

The GMAT is such an interesting and challenging test. Time is highly restricted and since it is a computer adaptive test, the test taker cannot move on to the next question until an answer has not been submitted. It is a matter of time management and a strategic approach to questions. Math knowledge for the quantitative section, in which I can help, is not expected to be no higher than High School level. Reasoning and logic will help you get to the other side. I successfully completed this test when applying to a top Business School, USC.
Marketing,

Marketing

I feel passionate about Marketing for its impact in organization's positioning in the marketplace at a global scale. Being an Engineer, I was hired by a technology company to direct their International Marketing operations. I executed this function with great success, managing an internal group of 13 people as well as public relations agencies in Mexico, Brasil, Saudi Arabia, Australia, New York and Los Angeles. The results, high profile press coverage in publications such as The LA Times, The Economist as well as foreign main newspapers and trade publications. Brand recognition and product positioning was also acquired in the various territories where the company operates. I attended UCLA Extension and obtained a Professional Designation in Marketing certification. I just graduated from USC Marshall School of Business with an MBA degree with concentration in Marketing.
Public Speaking,

Public Speaking

My International Marketing career took me to attend several conferences around the world. Speaking engagements were very important for my event strategy so I am used to speak to audiences coming from three main vertical markets: Government (Education, Local, State and Federal Government), Financial Services and Healthcare. Within these main verticals I had to tailor my message according to government agencies and organizations in different countries. I delivered the speeches, either in English, Spanish or Portuguese.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

The approach I give to this subject doesn't differ too much with that for other Algebra levels. Making sure students have the fundamentals of Algebra when assessment takes place during first lesson is my major concern. From there on is a matter of building up on new concepts. Building blocks is what Algebra is about.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

If the student does not have the fundamentals of Algebra, this is the moment to reinforce concepts before moving on with the Algebra 2 syllabus. Important concepts such as quadratic functions and their applications in real world problems are covered in Algebra 2. Introduction to probabilities and statistics are also covered here. Concepts and Algebra properties learned in Algebra 1 are continuously applied in solving Algebra 2 problems. Algebra 2 is also a gateway to Pre-Calculus which makes this subject an interesting bridge to higher level math subjects.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus is a subject that can be learned very easily. Being that PreCalc is a pre-requisite for Calculus, following our intuition and understanding the geometry and algebra behind the Calculus concepts as well as learning a few properties, makes Calculus a fun subject to learn and apply to real world situations.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry is one of my favorite subjects. I teach my students where formulas come from instead of just drilling them in memorization. Application of Algebra concepts to solve Geometry problems are reviewed.
Physics,

Physics

As a civil engineer, I have taken various levels of Physics in college. I have helped HS students improve their grades in Physics, but more importantly, I have helped them understand how Physics principles work in real-world situations. Formulas and graph interpretation become familiar and easy to understand in terms of deriving them.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

This is probably the most fundamental subject in Math. Students taking Algebra 2 will have to use properties learned in pre-algebra. I enjoy teaching this subject to make sure the basics are well learned. In addition, I have vast experience working with Middle and Elementary School students.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

As a building block on Algebra 2, and prior to Calculus, this is an important subject for students who want to pursue a career in a technology or science field. I have vast experience tutoring Algebra 2 not only because I have hundreds of hours with this subject but because of my engineering background.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

Taking admission tests requires not only mastering the subject but also the test taking process. Setting a test taking strategy is crucial for success. In a test taking environment in which time is pressuring, being precise and fast at the same time requires training. SAT Math is one of my favorites.

Knowledgeable tutor! Highly recommended

My session with Elena was great, I had tutoring sessions before but this one's been my favorite so far in preparation for the GMAT. I sent her a list of questions that I was struggling with, and she walked me through them, providing general and specific topics, and also shared with me the notes, so I could review them later. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend taking a tutoring session with her!

Excellent business calculus tutor. Patient and extremely knowledgable

Elena has been my tutor this semester for college level business calculus. As a returning student, I hadn’t seen Algebra in many years and had virtually forgotten most of it. As algebra is required in many steps of business calculus, Elena has been EXTREMELY patient with me. She is able to identify where my weaknesses are and puts together a road map for me to improve. I was hesitant to seek tutoring as I’ve never required it before, but Elena put me at ease instantly. She is well versed in all areas of math. While I came to her for business calculus, she has really helped improve my overall math skills. I’m now grasping concepts and visualizing solutions before even starting to write. I highly recommend Elena if you’re in need of a tutor. She has truly been a life saver!!
