I have been tutoring for 10 years now, and I've had the pleasure of working with many students of different levels. Most of my students are gifted high-school and college students. The subjects I specialize in tutoring are mathematics and sciences, ranging from classroom help, to preparation for standardized testing, or even competitions and research. This includes everything from AP level classes, college level intro and advanced classes, as well as competitions such as AMC, AIME, USAMO, ARML, Putnam exam etc.

I really enjoy tutoring, and I try my best to get to know my students. I have a friendly but thorough approach to teaching. I focus on finding the weakest points of knowledge in every student, and working on solidifying that knowledge. I emphasize problem solving skills by working through many examples, and encouraging visualization of the problems at hand. My goal is to bring students to a level of understanding that will make them succeed and inspire them with confidence.

In high-school I performed very highly in mathematics competitions such as the international mathematics olympiad, and then I moved to studying mathematics in college. At Caltech, I took many advanced classes in all core subjects of mathematics as well as special topics, and performed highly on the Putnam exam. During this time, I helped teach a class preparing other students for this sort of competitions. Ever since then, I've enjoyed teaching and tutoring students that are passionate about learning or making progress in math and science. After many years of experience, I have developed a very strong understanding of different curricula that students are exposed to, and I've learned to help them avoid the various pitfalls they may encounter.

I look forward to hearing from yo

Statistics

Statistics

Statistics is a subject that can feel very fun and easily understandable if you have the right teacher. I really enjoy teaching it because it really seems to make a strong impact on the students. It's an important subject and it's always a great feeling to see a student turn from struggling with concepts to mastering the problems and techniques.

Calculus,

Calculus

I learned Calculus at a young age and it was the main reason I fell in love with mathematics. I try to pass on that excitement to my students, and the many years of experience make that job only easier. I don't just focus on teaching the material but I also help the student with problem solving and other facets of mathematical thinking involved when learning calculus.
Physics,

Physics

I really enjoy teaching physics since it's such an interactive subject which requires good visualization and problem solving skills. I have a lot of experience tutoring anything from AP physics, standardized testing, to undergraduate or graduate level courses in physics and its various branches (classical mechanics, quantum, optics, electromagnetism etc).

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I took a differential equations class my freshman year in college and got fascinated by the subject. Afterwards I took two advanced classes in this topic and became familiar with the relevant literature and methodology. I have helped numerous college students prepare for this class.
Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

I have taken 5 discrete mathematics classes in my undergraduate program, one was undergraduate and the others were graduate level. I have always had a passion for combinatorics and I am familiar even with current research in most discrete math fields. Not only have I studied this subject for a long time, but I have also taught students at the college level with great success.
Finite Math,

Finite Math

Finite math is a subject I fell in love with since the first time I was exposed to it in a summer camp. I studied it in college, and even proceeded to do research in this field. I have experience tutoring students in both beginning and advanced finite math classes.
Linear Algebra,

Linear Algebra

Linear algebra has always been one of my favorite subjects to tutor, and it's an important subject that opens doors to many advanced classes. I took two advanced linear algebra courses as an undergraduate but I've continued to tutor students at the college level in this subject for a long time now. I have experience teaching through different curricula and through different textbooks.

With Shane math can be enjoyable !

Shane is helping my son, a junior in HS, with his preparation for AMC and AIME. I have never seen him before coming out of class with a smile on his face, saying "very interesting!" I asked myself, "What did I just see? What did I just hear?" If you are a parent looking for a math teacher for your gifted child, I strongly recommend Shane. You can experience the same as I did.

In one word: EXTRAORDINARY

I was really curious to try this tutor who had amazing reviews and an exceptional perfect-rating of 5 stars. Now, after taking a few lessons, I can honestly say that if it were possible – I would even rate him 6 stars. This tutor, Shane, besides being one of the sharpest professionals, he is first and foremost a great person – AND HE REALLY CARES. Highly recommended.

Awesome Tutor!

Shane is an awesome tutor. Math concepts can be abstract and difficult to grasp right away, but Shane can explain one concept in so many different ways until you understand it. He also uses real life examples so abstract concepts feel more approachable. He is extremely knowledgeable and patient when you ask questions. His ability to clarify logical concepts has helped me tremendously!

Confident Tutor That Addresses Issues with Calm and Clarity

I had difficulty with an assignment from a graduate level Electrical Engineering class at UCLA. Shane's calmness and confidence in his comprehension of the material really put me at ease. The student should feel the tutor answers all of their questions and Shane did with me. He explained the theories behind the problems so that they can be applied for future use. Flexible scheduling and making topics relatable, what more could you ask from a tutor? I would definitely recommend Shane to my colleagues.

Extremely knowledgeable with advanced linear algebra and abstract

Helped me understand my homework and would not move onto the next problem until he new I understood. I would definitely recommend him. I will be seeing him again. I am a 3rd year math major was ready to drop my 2 math classes and my first tutoring lesson was today and I walked away with a positive attitude and will be staying in my classes
