DOS

I still have my copies of Dos 3.3 through Dos 7.0, and I believe there are still copies of a Dos 2.X floating around. I also still have all of my documentation and manuals, and versions of DOS from IBM, Microsoft, Digital Research, Caldera, Phoenix, and many DOS programs....and I still have most of the hardware that can use most of the different versions of DOS.

Microsoft Windows

I started using Microsoft Windows with version 3.0. After having fought with the other Windows versions [3.1, 3.11, 95] I became a beta tester for Windows 98, finding 3 audio bugs within the first 24 hours. Have worked with everything from NT, 2000, xp, Vista, 7 - and am currently testing Windows 8. I have cared for the computers of several businesses, fixed many problems other experts said was impossible. I might not always be right with computers, and especially Windows related fun....but I am seldom wrong.

Networking (Computer)

Networking - Do I know everything about networking? Of course not. I know enough to usually be surprised when it DOES work as it is supposed to! I have worked with various forms of networking equipment - ArcNet, Ethernet, Wireless; fixed networks others felt were irreparable - and even designed, built and installed a network server for Windows 2000, while the other "new" server was dying, and the original Novell Netware server was very iffy - and everything had to be kept 'live', because dozens of people were adding to the databases every moment. An impossible job, I was told, with the Novell and Windows fighting one another... but it worked.

Bible studies... I have not had many of the formal studies an ordained minister would have had. I look at the Bible as a guide and an explanation of the Jewish and Christian worlds as they were during the time the Bible came to be. I read the Bible as a believer, having seen many things that cause amazement to myself, and to others, through many years - including medical situations that leave medical staff stunned. Although I have my own understandings, which are often based on my own personal experiences, I often find myself encouraging or defending others, who might believe totally opposite from me.

Music History

Music History - as I had it presented in college - was wonderfully....BOR-RING! Worse than pitiful - and I had always loved music! So I do not have a massive treasury of knowledge of "classical music" as was presented in class. But I am finding "music history" to catch my interest in,for example - the gypsy music of different areas of Europe, from Hungary to Spain...and in the sounds of Mexico, and in some of the Cajun and zydeco music of Louisiana! Or how the sounds of percussion and drums and so many other areas of music spread from Africa to Europe, and to America. Much of what is called "World Music" today is every bit as timeless and important as the "classical music" usually taught in classes.

Religion

What can I add - or should I add to "Religion", other than what I said under "Bible Studies"? Besides what I consider "Religion" in a personal sense - my beliefs, I have had a few interesting situations through the years. I worked for a Jewish couple for several years, and was treated like a son. During college, my family hosted a Thanksgiving with Jamaican, Japanese and Iranian students - and especially the Iranian students were very sharing in their explanations, as well as their prayer times while here, and discussions about the Bible. I grew up at a time when segregation was still practiced in the South - but I have seen many times through the years where I have been touched and blessed by many groups from many beliefs and many countries. I believe what I believe - but I still respect and have compassion for those who believe or think differently...and I often find that what I realize are blessings, are coming by and/or through them.

Social Studies

Social studies - for me, it is like a "missing link" for so many things! For example - why are some animals "wild" in one culture, and "tame" in another - or, to put it mildly - why are some animals endeared in one culture, and literally "dinner" in another country? Why do most societies and countries go through phases loudly condemning civil rights abuses in another country - while turning a blind eye to closer [or at home] abuses that are worse? Why do some food discoveries make such wonderful combinations [Chinese noodles and central American tomatoes = Italian pasta!]? Who came up with the idea of taking a bitter powder, mixing in sugar, and coming up with chocolate? Why do some songs and traditions span the centuries, and/or "cover the world", in essence? These are all aspects of "social studies", and there are thousands more. And social studies can also be very personal - as when you begin to learn more about your family - it's origins, history, backgrounds. Social studies is not always able to paint a beautiful picture of a country, or a people....or even what are considered "treasures" in the visual arts or musical arts...but it can enrich our lives and understandings, the more we learn of it.
