Bio

I am a fluent speaker of the Latin language with 18 years teaching experience. In 2008 I founded my own Latin and Ancient Greek tutoring company, and since 2015 I've had a team of tutors working under me. In my time as head of the company I've developed highly effective Latin and Ancient Greek courses, written a full-color, illustrated Conversational Latin textbook, and assembled a comprehensive collection of Latin grammar resources.

In my time as head of the company I've developed highly effective Latin and Ancient Greek courses, written a full-color, illustrated Conversational Latin textbook, and assembled a comprehensive collection of Latin grammar resources.

I have a B.A. Honors in Latin (magna cum laude) from Gonzaga University, with a minor in Art. Immediately following my graduation I completed an Ancient Greek course at UC Berkeley (equivalent to the first two to three years of a standard university Greek course).

My approach to all languages is basically the same, a dual focus on grammar and conversation. The awful truth is that most students who study a language never end up learning it because of poor curriculum and/or teaching. Most ancient language curriculum (Latin, Ancient Greek, Sanskrit, etc.) neglects conversation, while most modern language curriculum (Spanish, English, French, etc.) fails to teach the student the basic structure and logic of the language.

My teaching style is rigorous and comprehensive, with consistent drilling of endings, forms, and rules of grammar, all in the context of a logical and highly structured course. Since (unlike most Latin teachers) I am a fluent speaker of the language, I integrate Latin conversation into my teaching as well. Moving Latin into the oral sphere improves students' understanding of the language and greatly expands their Latin vocabulary.

Though my specialty is Latin and Greek, I have decades of experience tutoring many other subjects as well, including Spanish, English, History, Science, and Math (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Precalculus).

When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy ballroom dancing, creating autobiographical comics, and writing short fiction and novels.

Please message me if you have any questions. I hope to talk to you soon!

I have 18 years experience teaching Ancient Greek, Latin, and a variety of other subjects to students of all ages. In 2008 I founded my own Latin / Ancient Greek tutoring company, and since 2015 I've had a team of tutors working under me. As head of the company, I've developed highly effective Latin and Greek courses, written a full-color, illustrated Conversational Latin textbook, and assembled a comprehensive collection of Latin grammar resources. In 1999 I earned a B.A. Honors in Latin (magna cum laude) from Gonzaga University, with a minor in Art. Immediately following my graduation I completed an Ancient Greek course at UC Berkeley (equivalent to the first two to three years of a standard university Greek course), which focussed on grammar and translation of Plato and Homer. My teaching style is rigorous and comprehensive, with consistent drilling of Greek endings, forms, and rules of grammar, all in the context of a logical and highly structured 4-year Ancient Greek course. The course follows Hansen and Quinn's "Greek: An Intensive Course" for the first three years, teaching the student all essential Greek grammar as well as effective translation methods. In the last year of the course students switch over to the reading and translation of a range of Ancient Greek authors/texts, including the New Testament, Homer, Plato, and Herodotus. The harsh reality is that Ancient Greek is never easy to learn (which is why most students fail), but with my experienced teaching, effective curriculum, and detailed planning ANY student can succeed. If a student is dedicated to learning Greek, then that student WILL do well in my program, and if the student sticks with it long term, then the student WILL learn Ancient Greek. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like additional information. I look forward to hearing from you.

I teach four languages: Latin, Ancient Greek, English, and Spanish. My approach to all languages is basically the same, a dual focus on grammar and conversation. The unfortunate truth is that most students who study a language never end up learning it because of inadequate instruction and/or curriculum. Most ancient language courses (Latin, Ancient Greek, Sanskrit, etc.) neglect the conversational element, while most modern language courses (Spanish, English, French, etc.) fail to teach students the basic structure and logic of the language. My teaching style is rigorous and comprehensive, with consistent drilling of endings, forms, and rules of grammar, all in the context of a logical and highly structured Latin course. Since (unlike most Latin teachers) I am a fluent speaker of the language, I integrate Latin conversation into my teaching as well. Moving Latin into the oral sphere improves students' understanding of the language and greatly expands their Latin vocabulary. The Latin curriculum I've developed over two decades of teaching includes specific courses for three different age groups: 1) Sixth Grade and Under, 2) Junior High, and 3) High-School/Adult. The 6th-Grade-and-Under Course follows the "Lingua Latina" text, the Junior-High Course follows the "Linney's Latin" text, and the 4-Year High-School/Adult cours

Precalculus

Precalculus

For the past two decades I've been tutoring students of all ages in Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and Precalculus. My approach is efficient and effective, giving students detailed guidance in understanding concepts and then helping them work through related practice problems. I work well with all ages and levels, adapting my approach to the needs of each particular student. Because it covers such a wide variety of concepts Precalculus is a challenge for many students, and a tutor can be the difference between success and failure. In the first session I evaluate students' specific issues and make sure there aren't any gaps in their understanding of more basic math. By addressing these fundamental issues, I'm able to improve the student's Precalculus performance, which puts him or her in a great position to excel in all future math classes. Students struggle in Precalculus because they lack the detailed one-on-one instruction that they need to do well. I take the time to teach students the process for solving each individual problem type in meticulous detail. Most math is far easier than it seems at first, as long as the student understands the specific steps for solving each problem and has sufficient practice doing it. I make certain that my Precalculus students master all concepts and problem types, including composite and inverse functions, trigonometry, complex numbers, rational functions, conic sections, vectors, matrices, and probability and combinations.

Extremely Helpful

Andrew has been tutoring my daughter in Precalculus and she is getting a lot out of their sessions. Andrew is organized and prepared for their sessions, which I appreciate. She is understanding the content better and her grades are definitely improving. Thanks Andrew!

Outsanding and Knowledgeable Tutor

Andrew provided a thorough assessment of my daughter's needs and is working weekly with her to fill in the gaps. It was my daughter who expressed her interest in taking on Andrew on a consistent basis, given how much she enjoyed working with him.

Very helpful tutor

Andrew is the Grammar Nazi you have been looking for! His knowledge of English grammar makes the grammar of Latin and Greek easier to apprehend. I have almost 10 hours with this tutor and counting. 12 out of 10

Terrific pre-calculus tutor

Andrew met with my high schooler for two sessions to help prepare him for a pre-calculus test. He took the time to review the course materials before the lesson and was very patient/approachable during the lessons. Andrew also identified areas where my son should spend additional time reviewing and brushing up foundational math skills. A terrific tutor and we wouldn’t hesitate to set-up future sessions with Andrew.

Patient and Genuine

Andrew is very good at helping you understand the needed background knowledge to give you a better foundation for what you are learning. If you don't understand something right away he is patient and will go more in depth. I defiantly recommend. 10/10

knowledgeable and thorough

Andrew is fluent with Latin and is able to teach appropriate pronunciation as well as grammar, vocabulary, and translation skills. My son finds the pronunciation particularly helpful in developing a familiarity with the language that he was lacking when it was simply silent words on a page.

Great Tutor

Andrew is a very patient and knowledgeable tutor. When I started my lessons with him, I knew nothing about Latin. Despite this, he has excellently broken down the language in a way that makes sense, and makes a hard language like Latin just a little easier to understand. Overall I would strongly recommend Andrew when it comes to your language needs.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor for a very young 12 year old.

He is very talented and very patient with young learners. My daughter is 12 years old and is learning Latin. She is doing great with the help and knowledge from Andrew. I absolutely recommend him for anyone wanting to learn a new language.
