Bio

After spending years working in the field of college admissions, I've since switched jobs and decided to start working directly with students. My focus in educational consulting is to bring expert guidance to families of high school students.

After spending years working in the field of college admissions, I've since switched jobs and decided to start working directly with students. My focus in educational consulting is to bring expert guidance to families of high school students.

My experience comes from having worked for some of the country's most selective schools. I've worked at the UC System, Wash U. St. Louis, Northwestern University as well as Claremont McKenna College -- each institution had an acceptance rate under 20%. I knows exactly what helps to make a student stand out in the process, as well as what mistakes students tend to make when they apply to college.

I am there every step of the way from planning summer programs to crafting thoughtful admissions essays. With so much information out there it really helps to have someone on your side to find that perfect school.

Below is a sample of what I do to help my students.

Student Analysis: Personality and Aptitude Assessment, Career Values and Major Exploration, educational planning, mock interview(s), activity list, campus visits, recommendations, extracurricular review / summer activity resources, research tools.

College Identification Phase: Developing a comprehensive list of "good fit" colleges that meet the student's needs socially, financially, and academically.

Financial Aid Analysis: I help families create a strategy to maximize merit and/or need-based aid. I help students review scholarship opportunities and resources. I provide advice on the FAFSA, CSS Profile, among other and college funding/budgeting issues.

Application Work: Common App, UC, Cal State Apply, Coalition App, Apply Texas... The list goes on. Many of my students apply early action or early decisions. I provide the tools so my students don't make any mistakes while filling out their applications.

Interesting fact: I received perfect scores on both the SAT and ACT. However, that doesn't guarantee any person's ability to teach. It wasn't until during my college years that I worked for some of nation's largest test preparation companies -- Kaplan, Princeton Review, and Revolution Prep. From there, I started to gain a better understanding of how to teach to the structure of the test.

Even though I've left my admissions officer job, I still continue to read applications for the UC schools as well as some local liberal arts college. You have two choices when working with somebody. You can work with somebody who knows how to teach writing, or you can choose to work with somebody who understands the admissions process inside and out.

As part of my practice, I have expanded to working with students on private school admissions. I understand how the ISEE and SSAT factors into the independent school process as I have helped dozens of students with Boarding School and Independent School placement. I have a specific curriculum in place for students who need support with the testing process. Many of my former students have attended some of the country's most selective Independent Schools -- Sage Hill, Marlborough, Harvard-Westlake, Webb Schools, Groton, Exeter, etc.
