* My methodology for teaching these languages is a combination of traditional grammar methods taught in English, as well as speaking the target language (Greek or Hebrew) to practice speaking. Why speak these languages? Because in recent decades it has been shown that languages are internalized by both inputs and outputs, i.e. speaking, listening, writing, and reading a language; any language.
* I have an MA from a school in Jerusalem called Polis Institute in 2021 (accredited by UIC Barcelona, Spain) that teaches the conversational method in order to learn ancient Greek (Koine & Attic) and Hebrew.
* Come, let us get you started learning easy vocabulary, building sentences together gradually getting harder, as well as speaking the Biblical Languages together while we read, write or discuss what we see in pics, read a text, etc.

PRONUNCIATION: For both Biblical Hebrew and Modern Hebrew, I use a native Israeli pronunciation that I learned in Jerusalem, and for Koine Greek I use an Erasmian pronunciation.

Greek,

Greek

I just completed my MA in Ancient Philology in Jerusalem at Polis Institute. The accredited institution that provides the MA through Polis is International University of Catalonia (Barcelona). I began studying Ancient Classical Greek in early 2016 and have attended numerous conversational Ancient Greek immersion courses with Polis before going to Jerusalem to complete the 2 year MA program.
Hebrew

Hebrew

I just returned from Jerusalem for 2 years where I studied both Biblical and Modern Hebrew. I continue to study both and meet with native speakers online. Since I am a non-native speaker, albeit having learned from native speakers, I can only say I am at the intermediate level, but can hold conversations and read moderately difficult writings in Hebrew. Likewise for Biblical Hebrew i.e. the Tanakh (Old Testament bible), I can read easy to moderately difficult passages. I began taking Modern Hebrew primarily to supplement my Biblical Hebrew. In Israel I took classes up to level Bet (Aleph, Aleph+ then Bet). Because of my Biblical Hebrew, I skipped the first level, i.e. Aleph.

History

Bible Studies

Bible Studies

My MA in Ancient Philology from Polis Institute in Jerusalem (two years there) had 4 semesters of New Testament (NT) Greek and Old Testament (OT) Hebrew. I feel my greatest source of expertise is having studied extensively for years the earliest Christian writings we have outside of the Bible, called the Ante Nicene Fathers. In particular, the first 3 or 4 volumes that are dated from late first century CE to the beginning of the third century. In addition, I have studied for well over a decade the NT and OT extensively, the Mosaic Law, the Prophets and the Psalms, in addition to Christology (OT passages about the Messiah (Christ in Greek). I personally feel that modern Seminaries have departed from the Historic Faith in some ways. One thing I think is important for students is to learn the "big picture chronology" of the OT, i.e. can someone walk me through from Genesis to the end of the OT narratives explaining the events from Adam to the end with Ezra and Nehemiah? This is an important basis to understand the history that segways into the NT story of the Messiah.

A Great Koine Greek Tutor

Brett is very good tutor and has a unique way of teaching then when I was first taught Koine Greek. He likes to work on speaking and communicating in the language witch gets me to think more in the Koine Greek language then I have ever done before. It is helping me visualize the language more. He is very knowledgeable in not Only Koine Greek, but in Hebrew as well. I have just started to speak to him about teaching me Hebrew. I would recommend if you want to learn Koine Greek or just get some extra help as I am, Brett is the man for the job!

Knowledgeable and enthusiastic

Greek grammar and syntax, going through diclensions and sentence structure. Also the syntax and grammatical structure of verse 1 on the 9th chapter8. He also go over the participles and the use of them.

Knowledagable and energetic teacher! Excellent tutor.

Brett has been teaching me Koine Greek. He has various methods of teaching that include guiding me in the textbook I already have, speaking/pronouncing Greek, and learning to write my own. Brett has learned some excellent models of teaching and uses it in his tutoring sessions. He is patient when I forget (which is often) and yet holds me accountable to striving for learning a difficult language. Easily recommendable, and I've been his student for over six months!

Knowledgeable and patient and helpful

He’s walking through a new programming language called MIPS, that I have no experience in. He’s walking me through my first assignment with ease, as he explains the syntax to me. Definitely a great tutor. Will continue to go to him for my class.

Biblical Hebrew on Steroids

Brett's enthusiasm is a contagious catalyst. From day one he immerses you in the language. Using the techniques he learned at Polis Institute in Jerusalem as you are taught to greet מה שלומך = ma shalomKha meaning how is your peace with a reply: שלומי טוב = my shalom (peace) is good, and say goodbye שלום shalom! His method of teaching is more organic and less of a stoic structure of axioms and paradigms. If you like (as I do) going off road and exploring the Bible, Hebrew traditions and culture he is more than just informed, he is engaging. Brett truly loves teaching Hebrew but even more important he want to make sure you enjoy the lessons in a stress free and productive state. I personally love the feeling of achievement and confidence at the end of each session. I can not recommend him highly enough to anyone who has a desire to study Biblical Hebrew.

Patient and thorough

Brett takes the time to walk through concepts and debugging with you. I was doing very well in my class until we hit pushing procedures onto the stack. I hit a wall in my understanding until tutoring here. He makes sure you take away a good understanding of the material. Completely recommend!

Learning Koine Greek

I had been working on learning Koine Greek on my own for a few months but felt overwhelmed, frustrated, and unfocused. Brett is helping me to move through learning Koine in a logical, orderly sequence and guiding me through focusing on a bit at a time so that it's not so overwhelming. I have a tendency to get off track with random questions, but he keeps the lesson moving back on course. Having Brett's support on this language journey is making it feel totally possible to reach my goal of being fluent in Koine (and then Hebrew) so that I can read the Bible for myself. I spoke with several tutors before choosing to work with Brett. I feel like I made the right choice because he is fluent in Koine specifically. He's also friendly, encouraging, and easy to talk with so I feel free to ask any question and he also reminds me of realistic goals. The other good thing is he also knows Hebrew, which is the next step after I master Greek.

x86 Assembly Language

I've noticed the vast majority of tutors on Wyzant don't tutor x86 Assembly Language or are overly priced. Brett's price is very reasonable and he's an excellent, patient tutor for x86 Assembly who will go out of his way to help you succeed.

Great tutor! (RISC-V Assembly)

Professor Brett is such a great tutor! He asked, in advance what the topics were, and prepared the lesson beforehand. He made it really easy to understand concepts that had previously been difficult for me to grasp. He is also very patient and took the time to make sure I knew what I was doing. I will definitely be following up with more lessons from him!
