After I graduated, I spent an entire year by myself in Chile and Argentina to improve my Spanish and explore unfamiliar cultures. Before being able to speak fluent Spanish, I depended on my Spanish professors and TAs to provide both a formal and conversational overview of the language. They engaged me, challenged me, interacted with me, and taught me the discipline required to reach a high level of fluency. Similarly, I received invaluable assistance from the Ohio State Writing Center when I was taking my Introductory English and Literature courses. The tutors helped shape me into the writer I am today. They answered any and all of my questions and helped me with every single stage of the writing process. As a result, I don't struggle as much now when I compose papers. When I’ve worked as a tutor, I use what I learned in the past to teach or coach students through difficult problems and do my best to guide them towards a solution.
I have three years of experience working at The Ohio State Writing Center with native speakers and non-native speakers alike on all stages of the writing process -- everything from brainstorming and revisions on drafts to fine-tuning products. I am a tutor that relies on an indirect Pedagogical strategy, i.e., I ask questions to guide you to clarify and concisely communicate your ideas.
