Bio

Hi, my name is Curtis. I have been teaching and tutoring mathematics for over twenty years. Starting in high school in Connecticut and continuing through my college days at Cornell, I have enjoyed helping others to better understand mathematics in order to improve their test-taking experiences. Hi, my name is Curtis. I have been teaching and tutoring mathematics for over twenty years. I played as a guest musician with the Mt Holyoke College Jazz Ensemble 1999-2000. I played in the Norwich (CT) Concert Band from 1997-2005. I played in the Ledyard (CT) Community Jazz Big Band from 1997-2005. I played in the Griswold High School Jazz band as a guest musician/mentor from 1998-2005 and as a guest musician/mentor in the Lyman Memorial High School Jazz Band from 2008-2010. I love music and love working with young aspiring musicians.

Very Helpful Tutor

My son has only had 2 lessons with Curtis, but he has already become so much more positive about algebra. We will continue to have Curtis work with our son to help him get caught up on Algebra 2 concepts and increase his confidence in his abilities in math.

Exceptional: A 5-star review is insufficient

I could not recommend a math tutor more than Curtis. He is been exceptional with my 8th grade son. My son has some learning differences that could be challenging for a typical tutor. My son has a low working memory (masters a concept this week and completely forgets next), ADHD Inattentive type, and Dyscalculia (similar to dyslexia but for numbers). This takes a tutor with patience and the ability to teach a concept using different techniques to enable the student to understand and apply the concept. Rather unusual for my son, Curtis was able to connect with him during the first session. My son struggles from low self-confidence and Curtis made him comfortable and encouraged him. My son noted how Curtis “made things easier” and he looked forward to working with him. Our plan was to try multiple math tutors on Wyzant until we found one that worked well with my son. Our first tutor was Curtis and my son did not want to work with anyone else. My son’s math grades have gone up and more importantly, he is enjoying the learning. Therefore, a 5-star review is insufficient. Curtis is exceptional I recommend if you want better than a 5-star tutor.
