Hi! My name is Korey and I am a Boston-based guitar and mandolin player and instructor. I graduated summa cum laude from the Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance and a minor in American Roots Music. I've been featured in numerous publications such as Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and Bluegrass Unlimited, was a 2013 IBMA Youth All Star, a member of the 2018 Acoustic Music Seminar, and have toured and recorded with various national and local bands. Over the course of the last 18 years, I've had the privilege of studying with many different incredible teachers. For the last 5 years, I've used this knowledge to develop an effective teaching style for my weekly private lessons with students of various abilities and ages. In addition to music, I also tutor elementary math. I gained experience in tutoring math through working with middle schoolers on various activities including math homework. When helping a student, I focus on guiding them towards understanding a concept rather than showing them how to solve a specific problem.

During music lessons, I enjoy working with students on their instrument as well as improving their theory knowledge and training their ears. I believe that each private lesson should be specifically fitted for the individual. Therefore, I do not use a set curriculum, but rather refer to multiple different resources in order to give each student a comprehensive knowledge of the subject. After each lesson, if a new concept or song is explored, I provide sheet music or written words to help the student remember and visualize what was discussed and played. Overall, my goal is to help people find a connection between their mind and hands so that they can express themselves through thoughtful musical ideas. I look forward to working with students who need support in math or music classes. Please contact me if you have any questions about my teaching style or to schedule a lesson!

Sight Singing,

Sight Singing

In high school I got a 5 on AP Music Theory which tests sight singing. At Berklee, I practiced sight singing in many different classes including ear training and conducting. I think sight singing is very important to learn new music on any instrument.
