Hello everyone!

My name is Saman, or Sam for short. My philosophy on tutoring is simple, I work hard behind the scenes to make my sessions as effective as possible for my students. Every student's learning curve, strengths, weaknesses and learning styles are different. As such, my approach to each student is unique. I am passionate about helping students reach their academic goals and I take pride in my role as their tutor and also as a mentor.

I received my undergraduate training in Economics and Mathematics from the University of California, Riverside, Master's in Economics at the University of Texas at Austin and PhD in Economics (with an emphasis in Econometrics) at the University of California, Riverside. You may find the subjects I tutor below.

University Level:
College Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, Calculus I, II, III, Ordinary Differential Equations, Applied Linear Algebra, Probability & Statistics (and Statistics for Economics), Econometrics (Regression Analysis), Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Game Theory.

High School:
AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, Honors Precalculus, Trigonometry, Algebra 2, Algebra 1.

Standardized Testing:
SAT Math, ACT Math, ACT Science, ISEE, HSPT, William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition.

After my time with students, I find that there is a general shift with their outlook towards school. They aren’t so intimidated by a particular subject, because math, economics, statistics, trigonometry and so on, can be very fun and rewarding when the material is truly understood.

Calculus,

Calculus

I recommend all students to do a thorough review 2-3 weeks BEFORE they start a calculus course. I have created a great 'crash course' packet that students can complete to ensure they are ready to digest the calculus topics from day 1 in class without having to feel overwhelmed with weaknesses in their non-calculus related training. I have taken about 15 calculus based courses as a student and I can truly say I love the subject! It's like learning a new language, which can be frustrating initially. But once you establish fluency it's very rewarding. Every student that has worked with me on a long term basis has passed the AP Calculus exam.

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I have tutored The ACT math to countless students in the past. In short, it is a 60 minute, 60 question section with a calculator, covering: Pre-algebra, Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Plane Geometry and Trigonometry. Initially, I start with a diagnostic test for my students followed by a very thorough error analysis. All of which will be categorized into one of the sub-topics above and dealt with in isolation with high repetition. Student's must become very familiar with the test and the timing of it, which can be a constraint for many. This is done by practicing ACT questions at a high frequency each week. For example, 3 hours of ACT questions is, typically, less effective than 1 hour, 3 times per week even though the same amount of time was dedicated in each scenario. Homework should be expected and is very crucial to the process. Additionally, as for any standardized test, there are certain tricks that students can implement even when they aren't sure what the correct answer is to increase their chances of guessing correctly.

Trigonometry,

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is often the most confusing subject for many students I've encountered simply because they don't make the connection that we are now dealing with lengths and angles. I use simple techniques that help my students truly understand the unit circle, graphs of trig functions and trig identities. I don't teach them to just memorize but rather to understand why these relationships and equations exist.

Sam is an excellent tutor!

Specifically, I am very excited with Sam's level of math tutoring. Most math teachers and tutors do not really understand math enough to teach it at the middle or high school level. They do not know the levels of abstraction and strategies required to solve different classes of math problems. Sam has good math education, and excellent understanding of the process of solving math problems, and is able to impart this knowledge to his students. I strongly recommended him.

Knowledgeable and and effective tutor!

His lessons have been so helpful with increasing both my understanding and grades in ap calculus and ap macroeconomics!! He effectively teaches me in just a one hour session what I find difficulty understanding in school over the course of a week. I'm finishing up my semester with ap macroeconomics, and his help these past few months has been invaluable with making sure I understand the coursework... you can tell he has a very thorough understanding of the subject matter that allows him to teach it well. He's very understanding of the topics that I find difficulty with, and makes sure to clear up all of my uncertainty. He comes prepared to each calculus lesson with lesson plans that really ensure that I understand the material to do better on tests, alongside getting my homework done much faster than I would have without his help!

Very well prepared

Sam helped me study for the GRE. He was great and very knowledgeable. I would recommend him to anyone wanting to learn the quantitative portion of the GRE. Sam prepared math problems for me to review to prepare before our session.

Made a 100 on my test with his help!!!

FANTASTIC tutor. He came to our session prepared with practice problems of the material I was struggling with and showed me tricks to make problems simpler and quicker. Could not have made a 100 without his help!!!

Amazing Tutor !

Patient, quick to pick up on what challenges my kids. We will be with Sam for a long time! Patient and instructs well. We've been with Sam for about 8 months now and I honestly believe Sam is the greatest tutor around. He recently helped us out with a scheduling problem. He is accommodating in every possible way. He reworked his schedule because of a last minute exam and covered the material from top to bottom. Yes, my kids are doing well in math because of Sam but I hope that they see the bigger picture and learn what a fine, young man Sam is and strive to be like him.

Sam was well-prepared, patient and very capable of tutoring a wide variety of quantitative subjects.

Sam helped my daughter prepare for a physics quiz. We hired Sam to tutor AP Economics but he can also effectively tutor pre-calculus and physics. He's great!
