Outstanding Tutor - ACT composite went from 28 to 33

David is an OUTSTANDING tutor if you want serious prepping for the ACT. My son loved his methods of teaching from day one. Today we received my son's September ACT test scores and I am extremely pleased. The first time my son took the ACT back in April (totally unprepared), his scores in English, Reading and Science were, 27, 29, and 27 respectively. After engaging with David over the summer (once or twice a week), my son took the test again. HIs scores were 35, 33, and 34 respectively. (I did not including the Math score because we had a different tutor for Math). In any case, a solid five point gain on his composite score is clearly significant - it places him in the top 1% bracket nationally. His composite score could have been higher if it weren't for his lower score in Math, where he got a 28, but the high scores in the other sections helped bring his composite score up high. Amazing ACT English Tutor With Fantastic Results

Unbelievably Helpful ACT Tutor!

Having practiced for the ACT, I was able to receive a 36 in English on the first try after only a few lessons! I scored 34 on Science and Reading, but I will continue to work with David, who is unbelievably helpful giving me the support I need to improve my score. He is an expert in knowing the ACT test, as he knows the types of questions and how to break them down and answer them correctly. Learning how to identify question types immediately makes answering questions much more straightforward and less stressful!

I felt humiliated and disrespected.

The first lesson I had with him for the SAT was standard. But the second lesson I had with him was unacceptable. When I told him that I read his homework on "skimming," but I wasn't able to implement it, instead of showing me how to skim he abruptly ended the lesson without letting me explain. He did not create a comfortable tutoring environment. I felt humiliated and disrespected.

If you read through my 70+ WyzAnt reviews spanning nearly eight years, you'll see that the above review is the only negative one, and that the vast majority are glowing. At the end of my first session with the above student, she expressed how helpful she found the session, and she scheduled a second one. In that first session, I provided the student with an orientation to my approach to test prep, as I do with all new students. The orientation emphasizes the critical importance of prioritzing the assigned study material, which focuses on strategies and tactics. When students are doing the assigned work but are not fully understanding a strategy or tactic, I am always happy to answer their questions. However, early in our second session, it became clear that the above student had not completed the study material I had assigned as homework, nor so much as attempted to implement the associated tactics. In our subsequent discussion, I realized that this particular tutoring relationship was not a good fit, so I ended the session early, voiding the fee for the session, and encouraging the student to continue her tutor search on WyzAnt, which features many excellent test prep tutors with a variety of styles and approaches. I politely explained that I prefer to work with students who demonstrate a commitment to studying and implementing the strategies and tactics included in the homework assignments, as in my many years as a test prep specialist, I've found that doing so is fundamental to significant score improvement.

My daughter needed to raise her ACT score by one point to qualify for major scholarships, and had less than four weeks to prepare. We found David W. on Wyzant, and they got to work immediately. David identified the subjects and techniques that required the most improvement, and focused on those. Working together, he and and my daughter made a great team and covered a lot of ground. He was always prepared for her lessons, and provided excellent advice and feedback. In the end, she was able to raise her score by two points! David is an exemplary tutor, and I would highly recommend him for students needing intense, focused coaching.

So far my son took 3 classes with him. He is able to engage him to do the SAT exam process, and point out where he makes mistakes. Also sends follow-up note end of each session. One other thing I like about him is that even student answers correctly he ensures given answer comes from understanding not from the lucky guess.
