Hello. I am Megan D and I have been teaching for 11 years. I spent the first four years of my teaching career teaching third grade. At the start of my fifth year, I began teaching 2nd grade part of the day while spending the remaining part of my day as the buildings STEM Coach. This new title gave me lots of opportunity for various trainings including cognitive coaching, Math Recovery, AVMR, etc. I spent the next six years in this position. This year, I accepted a full time Math Intervention position at my school and now work with grades K-5. I have an undergrad in K-6 Elementary Education and a minor in 6-8 Communications, Arts and Literature. I then went on to get my Master's Degree in Educational leadership.
I have tutored for several students over the years. I have worked with below grade level students and I have worked with above grade level students. My approach with each student changes based on their individual needs. With my below grade level student, I used a lot of my Math Recovery learning and worked with the student to help them construct an understanding of basic number. We used a lot of manipulatives to teach a new skill and slowly would take away that support. With my above grade level students, I worked on the problem solving process and critical thinking skills. I worked with them on how to apply the skills they had to more complex problems while also teaching them how to approach problems with resilience and perseverance.
