I'm Joanna! I recently graduated from Harvard with high honors in Linguistics and Pure Mathematics and a concurrent Master's degree in Computer Science. Not only am I an excellent teacher, I know the techniques to ace tests. To highlight my most relevant accomplishments, I achieved perfect 800s on the SAT math section and the math subject test, a perfect 5 on the Calculus BC exam, and a perfect 340 on the GRE. I can help you or your kid learn the patterns of standardized tests so that they can succeed just like I did. If you're interested in more advanced math, I excel at discrete math: I offer lessons in any discrete math at an undergraduate level, including Modern Algebra, Topology, and especially Set Theory and Logic.

I've been coding since middle school, and with my master's in Computer Science, I am well-equipped to teach computer science. As a TA for an introductory computer science class, my students praised me for being able to explain concepts well so that they would be equipped to solve the questions themselves. If you are considering advanced theory classes, I can teach on Theory of Computation and Programming Language Theory.

GRE

GRE

I graduated Harvard with a bachelor's with high honors in Linguistics and Mathematics, and a master's in Computer Science. My studies of Linguistics and Mathematics helped me achieve a perfect 170 on both the Verbal and Quantitative sections of the GRE. I've been tutoring since I've been old enough to, and have been a TA for two classes in college, earning excellent student reviews each time.

I have a master’s degree from Harvard in Computer Science with a GPA of 3.9; my bachelor’s degree is also from Harvard, with high honors in Linguistics and Mathematics. I have 6+ years of tutoring experience teaching students aged 5 to 50, including two TA positions, earning stellar student reviews. I was a Teaching Fellow for Introduction to Theoretical Computer Science, running the most popular section and the most popular office hours in a required class with about 120 students and 13 TAs. In addition, I was the sole course assistant for Mathematical Logic.

Latin

Latin

I have received 4 perfect scores on the NLE (something that only about 5 people achieve every year). I have a 5 on the AP, and an 800 on the SAT subject test. In the Junior Classical League, I won many prizes at the state and national level, including winning first place sight reading nationally, and captaining the winning Advanced Latin quiz bowl team in Colorado. I would love to teach Latin to your child.

Linguistics

Linguistics

I recently received my bachelor's degree from Harvard with high honors in Linguistics and Mathematics, for my senior thesis in Linguistics. While at Harvard, I was president of our Undergraduate Linguistics Society, and helped run speaker events for guests such as Noam Chomsky, David J Peterson, and Barbara Partee. In terms of Linguistics competitions, I have been taking NACLO since 5th grade, and regularly made it to the invitational round, including in 8th grade, so I'm very familiar with how the exam works. I have tutored kids to prepare for the NACLO, and have also introduced students in the Undergraduate Linguistics Society to the exam, both solving and writing problems!

I received a perfect 36 in every category of the ACT, including math. I recently received my bachelor's from Harvard with high honors in Linguistics and Math, and achieved a master's degree in Computer Science, also at Harvard. I've been teaching math since the age of 16, including tutoring high school students for test preparation.

Discrete Math

I have a master’s degree from Harvard in Computer Science; my bachelor’s degree is also from Harvard, with high honors in Linguistics and Mathematics. I was a Teaching Fellow for Introduction to Theoretical Computer Science (which had Discrete Math as a prerequisite), running the most popular section and the most popular office hours in a required class with about 120 students and 13 TAs. In addition, I was the sole course assistant for Mathematical Logic, running office hours, grading assignments, and helping guide curriculum. I took number theory and combinatorics as early as middle school, and I've never stopped using discrete math, as I've had to use it in most of my mathematics and computer science classes---as a result, I am extremely comfortable with discrete math and will be able to explain any concept you come across.

I recently graduated from Harvard, which means 1) I know how to get into Harvard, and 2) my knowledge is recent. I also am good friends with someone who works in the admissions office at Harvard, so I have a bit of an inside view, although of course nothing remotely confidential. My bachelor's degree is with high honors in Linguistics and Mathematics, and my master's degree is in Computer Science with a 3.9 GPA.

Very helpful!

I was working on NP proofs and Joanna really guided me into understanding. She was careful to nudge me in the right direction. With her coaching I was able to come up with the answer on my own, and that always leads to a better understanding in the long run. I highly recommend her!

Patient and Knowledgeable Tutor

Joanna assisted me with recurrences using the iteration method and the Master Theorem. She was able to break down problems to easily explain them with simple example. She also covered many parts of the problem that I lacked in knowledge in, such as Big O Notation. She was very patient and helpful when I was not understanding parts of the problems.
