I have been teaching math full time at the high school level in Massachusetts since 2010. Courses taught include prealgebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, precalculus, and ap calculus. I firmly believe that everyone is a "math person" and work hard to help my students build confidence and push themselves to their fullest potential. Through my job, I work with both general and special education students, and teach courses at both the honors and college-prep levels.

I have also done private tutoring in all the above subjects. When tutoring, as in teaching, I work to make sure each student understands the underlying concepts so that they can develop a genuine understanding of the material. I also focus on making sure they are confident solving problems independently, not just with my assistance, and help them build the skills needed to persist when presented with new problems and material.

Through my classroom teaching, I have seen that tutoring can be an aide for students but also a crutch. I work to make sure the students I tutor do not become overly reliant on me by working with them to develop their mathematical habits of mind, as well as effective study skills. When presented with new or challenging material, it is important that they attempt the work first themselves rather than immediately giving up and waiting for assistance. Math is about critical thinking and problem solving, and persistance is key. I also encourage them to build relationships with their teacher and check in with them as often as possible.

In terms of credentials, I received my BA from Brandeis University in mathematics in 2010 (GPA: 3.754) and my Masters in Math Teaching from Boston University in 2016 (GPA: 4.0). I have been certified to teach math grades 8-12 since 2010 and have participated in a number of professional development programs, including PROMYS for Teachers and the Park City Math Institute Teacher Leadership Program.
