Hi everyone! My name is Laura and I am excited to help you strengthen your reading, writing, vocabulary, editing/revising, and study skills! I have been an English Language Arts teacher for over 14 years and have taught all grade levels 6-12, from basic skills to special education inclusion to honors. I have two Bachelor’s Degrees, one in Communications and one in Secondary Education/ELA/Literature, and a Master’s Degree in School Administration. In addition, during undergraduate school, I worked as a tutor at my college’s Writing Center (Go Ospreys!) and truly enjoyed working with college level students. I have also taught Creative Writing and Public Speaking.
I am passionate about helping students become stronger writers throughout the entire writing process, from generating original ideas to organizing them and refining them until they say exactly what you intended. I can help with college essays/personal narratives, literary analysis essays, creative projects, research papers and presentations, etc. I also genuinely enjoy the proofreading and editing process, so even if you’ve already written the paper, I am here to help you polish it!
If you need help with reading, that’s great news too! I love reading and discussing literature and am happy to help you understand your assigned reading more deeply. If it’s vocabulary you need help with, look no further: I am a word nerd and can help you expand your lexicon in both speech and writing.
Finally, I’m an extremely organized and intentional learner, so if it’s organizational or study skills you struggle with, I can help you there, too.
My number one goal for my students is to discover the joy of learning and become lifelong learners who remain ever curious about the world around them. To do that, however, learning has got to be fun, so one of my top priorities is ensuring that all my students feel comfortable, confident, and excited to take on whatever learning challenge they face.
