Music is life. It shares the same qualities of life. There are times of great rewards of happiness and then there are times of sorrows. Music can portray the actions of what happens in life. Music can provide an individual with the tools of freedom of expression. Therefore through music a student can have an outlet for the ability to express his or her true feelings of life. It can be beneficial, a way to help students with the stresses of living, an attempt to make their life successful no matter what they decide to do. I plan to provide a curriculum of music that will help students through life. Through my actions as a music teacher, I want to provide these musical tools that will encourage the students with the use of a nonverbal communicative language. With this language, a student’s learning ability will increase both expressively and cognitively helping with creativity and the understanding of other subjects. Overall I want to facilitate a program that will encourage students to be successful in any direction they choose. It is to my definite attention that some people like music and some just do not want to be involved with it. I have a full understanding that one might not be interested. It is not my position to make others love or even like music. It is my hope to provide and encourage the knowledge of music and the ways it can be used in life.

I have taught teach music as a middle school general music teacher, a high school band director, an elementary band director, community band director, drum corps. horn instructor, college pep band instructor, and for many years privately. I can help you with all your music notation, theory, and ear training needs. I currently teach and have taught lessons for flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba. I am a professional low-brass player (trombone, euphonium, and tuba) in which I have done numerous performances with community and college bands as well as solos with my main instrument euphonium. My main concentration is brass ins

Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

With all my students I encourage them to compose music. Whether it is by writing it down, playing something from memory, improvising with a set of chords, or manipulating a given melody, I will help with those creative juices! First we deal with understanding the rules of music such as part writing, scales, theory, etc. Then we take those rules, use creative ideas, and then plainly try what you have composed. Many compositions are finished by trial and error type of techniques. My hope is to help you with your composition process with the best educational advice I can.

History

Music History

Music History

Let’s take the time to understand the great composers in the world of music. I can help you with your music history questions and provide you knowledge about the various music eras such as the Classical, Baroque, and Renaissance time periods to name a few. We will learn and answer questions about Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schumann to name a few very professional and well know composers. We can also take the time and learn about contemporary composers of today such as Aaron Copland and Philip Glass. We can take the tour of minimalism and end with movie themes by John Williams. The more you know about music history, the more you can understand how music was born.

Ear Training,

Ear Training

Ear training can be a hard endeavor to conquer. To be honest my opinion it is the most overlooked music subject in public schools. I approach ear training by using your instrument if you have one or using pianos and other recorded melodies. Once I figure out your level of ear training understanding, we work on music theory with an ear training approach if that makes sense. In other words we work on both the understanding and relationships of music notation so you can understand what you are listen to. We focus on Major, Minor, Pentatonic Scales to name a few as well as large quantities of melodies. You will never believe how much is going on in a simple song or a major musical piece.
