Having taught for over 20 years at the university level, I'm known for my skill at recognizing what you need as a student to achieve success. My students describe me as someone who builds their confidence and skills in a patient and nurturing way. They tell me my standards are high, but I make sure they get there! Having taught for over 20 years at the university level, I'm known for my skill at recognizing what you need as a student to achieve success. My students describe me as someone who builds their confidence and skills in a patient and nurturing way. They tell me my standards are high, but I make sure they get there! When I work with you, I'm 100% engaged with you as a person, matching what I teach to what you need. As a teacher, my work has focused on teaching writing, literature, and history, and I've dedicated many years to teaching academic English to international students and adults. Currently, I teach returning engineers, bankers, filmmakers, and businessmen at MIT, as well as international students from China at a private high school. I've been tutoring for over 30 years, have trained teachers in the teaching of English, and have ten years of advanced graduate study

In my work at Brandeis, I reviewed hundreds of college essays from applicants and saw what mattered. For ten years, I've been helping students create winning application essays. Last year, my tutees were accepted to Johns Hopkins, New York University, Tufts, Emory, Purdue, Boston University, and Clemson, among others. How do you create an essay that stands out? By showing them how amazing you are--just as yourself--and showing them what makes you the absolutely right student for them. One student accepted to Tufts last year was told by her admissions officer that it was her essay we worked on together that made the difference. Let me help.

If you are a junior or senior and need individualized test prep with SAT or ACT, let me help you decode the test, build on your strengths as a thinker and test-taker and increase your score. The ACT in particular is a test that can be prepped for as can the new SAT.

For high school students, I am here to help you succeed in any aspect of reading or writing, from history to English to psychology. If you are an international student, I will help you increase your fluency in reading, writing, speaking and

Great Job, Great Tutor!

Nancy has worked with my son on several projects in his 10th grade English and World History classes. My son is not the easiest student to teach, but Nancy did a great job helping him with many writing assignments and studying for tests. She provides great insights into the texts that the students read for English class, and she makes the assignments enjoyable. Nancy reduced the stress associated with writing longer essays. She also helped my son understand the concepts behind world history events, helping to make learning fun and interesting. Nancy also helped my daughter with the required essays for independent school applications. Not only did my daughter improve her writing skills by working with Nancy, she learned quite a bit about herself in this valuable process. We look forward to continuing to work with Nancy this coming year!

Knowledgeable and rigorous teacher

Nancy walked me through the annotation process of a short story. She helped me identify critical moments and choose relevant quotes for an analysis paper. Finally, she clearly outlined the difference between plot summary and textual analysis that I have been struggling with.

Great Tutor Who Understands Students

Nancy is a great tutor, she get on the point very quickly and smartly. When my daughter wasn’t sure what to write on the college essay and don’t think she has the story worth to write, Nancy started Q&A in a very smooth and gentle way, quickly she found what topic makes my daughter exciting. Then her question became very sharp and directly pointing into the what, why, and how the topic could make her excited. This way she found the story and connection between the story and the essay which high scholars may not have the ability to link them together. Nancy is fully involved into helping the students, she prefers in-person meeting in order to have better understanding between the two, at least the first meeting. During the conversation, she is very supportive, positive, and patient, this way, student will not have too much stress. I highly recommend her and hope this review can help you understand how Nancy teaches.

Professional Who Understands Teaching

We have worked with several tutors over the years, and our first lesson with Nancy was the best lesson we have had so far. She is an extremely strong teacher who understands how to get kids interested in learning. She is enthusiastic and skilled at reaching kids and getting them to enjoy the process of thinking, which in turns, shows in their work. We look forward to many sessions with Nancy.
