#1 Tutor on Wyzant in the Summer of 2015!!!!

Covid-19 and remote classes have negatively impacted student learning and amplified the need for educational support as students who had never struggled before start to fall behind for the first time.
However, any educational problem can be fixed, assuming the basics are mastered. There is hope.

Above the level of hope is competence. I am referring here to the competence of a skilled tutor who has taken on hundreds of students over a fourteen-year period and turned each one of them into a high-performing scholar. When you have the knowledge, certainty, and willingness to accept challenging students and get results, hope is no longer just a byword. It's reality.

I have found that there are very specific reasons why a student would have trouble studying. Knowing these and how to remedy them opens the door to real learning. I consider it vital for all my students to be able to study independently after tutoring. This is an area that is generally neglected by modern education.

I have also found that continued student success depends heavily on parental involvement at the lower levels, while at the upper levels older students respond best when given motivation and study skills that enable them to learn without stress.

Education in the twenty-first century must equip them with the ability to sift through tons of information and extract usable facts that can lead to successful innovations. My tutoring approach seeks to increase interest and curiosity while continuously challenging the students to think for themselves. This results in an increased ability to assimilate, evaluate and even create knowledge. Most importantly, the students learn how to excel in any academic environment and they easily master new and unfamiliar topics.

Note: If you prefer to pay lower rates please consider bringing another student or taking individual lessons with my tutors under my supervision.

Approved Subjects

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 can be tough for young students transitioning from middle school math but I have developed simple techniques for solving complex problems so that my students get the same test results as they did in early math classes.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I specialize in teaching advanced and honors Algebra 2 classes. All the complicated topics can be easily understood with my simplified explanations. Trigonometry in particular is susceptible to a rapid introduction that empowers students to solve all types of problems using only 19 tools.
Calculus,

Calculus

Calculus deals with constant change in situations such as motion, growth and decay. I have helped many students truly appreciate the value of calculus in real life so they can become motivated to tackle the material and succeed on tough courses. The classes I cover include high school calculus, Calc AB/BC, all the way up to College Calculus 2.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry demands knowledge and application of essential theorems, axioms and postulates. I have helped many students master the basics and learn how to apply the principles of geometry in seemingly dis-related subjects.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra introduces students to the basics of solving equations by balancing both sides. It also includes other topics that utilize variables. I have helped many students gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed in both pre-algebra and algebra itself.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Pre-Calculus covers many topics that range from vectors to limits. I have found that students benefit the most from pre-calc classes when they comprehend the underlying concepts of each topic. This can get lost in honors classes due to the speed required, so I help by illuminating the basics and clearly demonstrating the real-life applications of each concept.
SAT Math

SAT Math

*Note: As many colleges go test-optional, I expect that only high scores will matter on the SAT, so I recommend that students aim to score above the median SAT score for their most selective target college. SAT Math questions require that a student understand each question, break it down into basic forms learned in Algebra and Geometry, and solve it rapidly in a way they are comfortable with. Precise diagnostic tests, tons of practice, and proper techniques are the best remedy for poor performance. When using online practice tools, it is sometimes helpful to understand why some wrong answers are wrong. I have helped many students master the skills they need to do well on this test.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

ACT Math tends to be less tricky than SAT Math as it mostly tests what a student has learned in school. I teach or reinforce the concepts first then I move on to time control and pacing because the test demands fast and accurate thinking. My approach has helped many students increase their scores on the ACT Math exam.

Trigonometry

I help students avoid rote memorization so that they can be able to answer all types of trig questions by using only 19 key items. Students routinely go up two letter grades once they understand the value of trig and start to apply master my simplified techniques.

COOP/HSPT,

COOP/HSPT

I have helped many students do well on the Cooperative Admissions Program (COOP) test and gain entrance to the Catholic high school of their choice. The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is another common achievement test for those who want to enter high schools of different types. The contents of these tests are similar and I have obtained uniformly excellent results tutoring students in both tests.
ISEE,

ISEE

The ISEE offers many students an opportunity to write their own future by getting into their school of choice. The Independent School Entrance Examination is offered by ERB, the Educational Records Bureau. The ISEE exam covers Verbal (vocabulary), Reading Comprehension, Quantitative Reasoning (ability to think with and use Math in unique situations) and finally it covers basic Mathematics techniques. The test has different levels for different grades: Lower, Middle and Upper. After tutoring many students in the ISEE I have found that the best preparation starts with a solid education in Basics. A reading program that emphases depth and breadth of extensive reading on a daily basis would be the ideal prep. The singular difference between students on the ISEE is simply vocabulary, knowledge of. As for the test itself, I have found that students need 6-12 weeks to prepare for the ISEE proper. Utilizing texts from various test-prep publishers as well as the ERB website itself, I have been able to quickly teach test-taking skills as well as subject content to excellent results.
Praxis,

Praxis

I have tutored many students in the following Praxis topics: Numbers, Quantities, Algebra, Functions, Calculus, Geometry, Probability, Statistics. and Discrete Mathematics. The test itself is not too complicated but it is quite important to understand (not memorize) the formulas and mathematical notation. A well-defined study plan with extensive practice is essential to getting a good score on the test. I have successfully guided many students through all the steps needed to ace this test.

Extremely knowledgeable and accommodating tutor

Reached out to Tapi at the last minute for my son who was struggling with Algebra 2 and needed to pass an upcoming test. Tapi responded in a few minutes and set us up for a lesson on the same day. Needless to say, my son did amazingly well in the test. Tapi is knowledgeable, patient and inspires confidence in his students. Can't recommend him more!
