Hi, I'm Lisa F. and I'm devoted to tutoring. It's my full-time job. I help run a tutoring center where I hire and train awesome tutors. Hi, I'm Lisa F. and I'm devoted to tutoring. It's my full-time job. I help run a tutoring center where I hire and train awesome tutors. In addition, I also tutor every day in multiple subjects like English, history, political science, anthropology, and sociology. I was a full-time teacher: first in political science, then in English as a Second Language (ESL). I have a Master's degree in English as a Second Language teaching, a Bachelor's degree in English Literature, and a Ph.D. in political science. I was also a student not too long ago when I went back to college for my second teaching degree. I still teach small group and one-to-one ESL classes. All these diverse teaching and learning experiences make me a reliable, effective, and understanding tutor.
I want you to know that I have taught in many different places and situations, including volunteer literacy centers for members of the community, formal classrooms of college students, workshops for vocational/technical working adults, virtual small group and individual tutoring sessions, and English classes for graduate students overseas. I have been teaching and tutoring college students and adults for more than 20 years, but have discovered I work best when I can help students through active engagement, motivating hands-on strategies, collaborative techniques, reflective discussions, and learner-centered support. I rely significantly on students' input, guidance, and feedback to assist me in tailoring my tutoring to each student. The different strengths, qualities, and knowledge you bring to each tutoring session are valuable to me and deserving of my respect. I look forward to supporting you through tutoring.
