Bio

I have taught/tutored for 14 years. I was both a student and graduate assistant at CSULB where I attained a B.S. in Mathematics and a M.S. in Statistics.

I have experience tutoring in all mathematics subjects up to and including graduate-level material. I have a massive amount of experience in tutoring almost all of the subjects that I'm qualified to teach or tutor. I have a massive amount of experience in tutoring almost all of the subjects that I'm qualified to teach or tutor. Thus, there aren't a lot of tutors who have as much experience in tutoring algebra, geometry, trigonometry, probability, statistics, precalculus, calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, physics, and chemistry, along with SAT, ACT, ASVAB, GRE, and GMAT test preparation.

Based on my educational level and experience attained from working in industry, you will find that my hourly rate is very affordable compared to many other tutors. I am also one of the highest-rated tutors, considering how much time I've spent tutoring (there are some PhD tutors who don't have very good ratings, and others who artificially keep their ratings up).

My most salient skill, however, is presenting the theory and logic used for many proofs and equations in a simpler and easier to visualize alternative format that students can more easily understand.

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I have taken both lower division and upper division classes in differential equations. Differential equations are encountered in many different disciplines, in courses such as business calculus, physics, mechanical engineering, and even in chemistry. Typically a little bit of differential equations is taught in the third calculus class (usually the calculus course which covers multivariable calculus). The topics covered in the differential equations classes that I completed were as follows: 1) Separation of variables 2) Homogeneous equations 3) Exact equations 4) Linear equations 5) The equations of Bernoulli, Ricatti 6) Substitutions 7) Picard's method 8) Undetermined coefficients 9) Variation of parameters 10) Second-order differential equations 11) Cauchy-Euler equation 12) Power series solutions 13) Besel's equation 14) Legendre's equation 15) Laplace transform 16) Systems of linear differential equations 17) Numerical methods 18) Fourier series
Mechanical Engineering,

Mechanical Engineering

I have the equivalent of a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. I hold a Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate. I recently tutored a mechanical engineering student (over 3.3 gpa) in ALL of his core courses. I've taken Statics, Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Materials Science, Dynamics, Kinematics, Propulsion, Combustion, Finite Element Analysis, Mechanical Vibrations, and Machine Design.

Test Preparation

AFOQT,

AFOQT

The AFOQT test is in many respects very similar to the ASVAB, such as it has math problems involving rates, proportions, and estimations (but at a more difficult level), but it also includes a section of problems for testing the applicant's spatial abilities by testing whether the applicant can determine the proper orientation of an aircraft based solely on instrument information. I have tutored other students on this test and know all of the exercises and tricks that will help you attain a high score on the AFOQT.
TEAS,

TEAS

I have tutored many students over the TEAS test. I have a lot of experience at being able to describe the solution techniques that are used to solve the mathematical section problems, along with being able to quickly teach the chemistry principles that are covered on the test.

Glen gets results FAST - WOW!!!

Serious students, parents, and professors understand the "hit or miss" nature of tutors. I was referred to Glen through a friend who is taking a difficult graduate-level statistics course. She said without a doubt, he is better than any other statistics or math tutor in the area (and this lady is very bright so I trust her advice). Personally, I'm taking Calculus 2 over this summer and the pace is very fast. We covered 1.5 chapters in 4 days. We started the class with word problems which are difficult, even for the tutors at my college (some tutors won't even attempt certain problems). I was having a very hard time geometrically interpreting what integral calculus is supposed to describe. I was simply trying to plug numbers into formulas and hoping to get the right answer with a very vague understanding of what's actually going on. It took two hours, and Glen completely changed that. How? He didn't do the problems for me, he showed me how to approach them from a logical standpoint. On top of that, he went backwards and spotted some detrimental reasoning errors from the earlier sections of the chapter that I was incorrectly building a bad foundation upon. Without going into the nitty-gritty details of calculus, anyone who can spot errors in logic/reasoning (as opposed to computational errors) has a rare talent for mathematics. Hours later that night, I completely finished my entire test review correctly (by myself) without relying on formulas at all. (I hate merely memorizing formulas because it shows a lack of understanding and I knew that prior to Glen and I felt guilty about it.) I now feel confident that I will get an A on this next exam and I truly feel a new sense of empowerment and have a deeper, richer understanding of what I'm learning, as well as a greater appreciation for integral calculus (if you're unfamiliar, that's the more challenging branch of calculus). If you need a math tutor for any level, don't waste your time elsewhere. I know I won't. P.S. I emailed him at midnight and he came the very next day!

Knowledgable and encouraging tutor

Glen helped to identify what the problems were asking and gave strategies to remember the different identities. He was patient, encouraging and helpful. We will not hesitate to ask for Glen's help again.

Physic

Glen was very thorough and plan out the lessons for both my college kid and high schooler. They both like his explanation. They both think glen has helped in improving physics knowledge.

GLEN R. - MATH TUTOR - IS EXCELLENT

This is a review of 'Glen R.' Math Tutor (parent of the student): ***** GLEN R. MATH TUTOR IS EXCELLENT - 5 STARS EVERY SESSION ***** We highly highly recommend Glen R. - he is the Best of the best!!! In our case we needed preparation before and during a very accelerated (6 week) pre-calculus College course. There had been a gap of a year or so since the last math class in high school. Glen R. listened extremely well, understood, and then Perfectly guided the student with Exactly what was needed. Interactive, flexible, attentive, on-demand sessions between Glen and the student were always professional and spot on help. All objectives and results were achieved. If you want the Best of the best - then we Highly Recommend that you go with Glen R: you'll be pleased with your choice and thrilled with the positive, professional, listening-oriented tutoring and the results!

Great multiple subject tutor!

Glen has been a hero in our books! We started with Glen for my sons high school honors chemistry and found that he was just as fabulous teaching algebra two. Glen knows exactly how to help a student and figures out what they need to do in order to comprehend the material and earn a better grade. I highly recommend Glen!
