My love of math has influenced my choices in careers throughout my life. My bachelor's degree is in Engineering from the Univ. of TN, Knoxville. Go Vols! After working in the engineering field for 7 yrs., I spent the next 7 yrs. at home with my two sons. When I decided to enter the workforce again I was asked by a local administrator if I might be interested in teaching high school math. I should thank him, because I found my true calling. I love math and I love helping students gain a better understanding and comfort level with math themselves. I enjoy the challenge of finding different ways of explaining a topic until it makes sense to my students. Because of my engineering training and experience, I am able to give lots of examples of how the various topics are actually useful.

I hope I will be able to help every student I work with be successful and more comfortable with math. Maybe I can even get them to like it!

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

The basic skills studied in Algebra I are the building blocks for all of the higher Math courses. My engineering study and work experience as well as my years served as a Math teacher have given me many examples to use to make Algebra I more interesting and therefore easier to understand. I have many ways to explain the different concepts so that most students are able to easily grasp the important concepts.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

The concepts covered in Algebra II are integral to success in all higher Math courses such as Calculus and Statistics. My ability to break the problems down into smaller more manageable steps make understanding Algebra II easier for most students. Whenever possible I show students examples of where these concepts are applied in real-world applications.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry is loaded with topics which are integral to my engineering background. I have taught Technical, Honors and Regular Geometry. I am currently serving as a State Core Coach in Geometry. It is my favorite subject to teach because it lends itself to so many hands-on activities.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

The basic skills studied in Pre-Algebra are the building blocks for Algebra I. My years served as a Math teacher have given me many examples to use to make Pre-Algebra more interesting and therefore easier to understand. I have many ways to explain the different concepts so that most students are able to easily grasp the important concepts. I also use manipulatives and games to make the learning more relaxing and fun.

Math

ACT Math,

ACT Math

My success rate is high when working with students on ACT Math. Most are able to increase their score by 2 or 3 points. I am especially helpful if a student needs to become stronger in the Geometry portion of the test.

Best math tutor

Debby tutors my boys in math. She loves math and she loves tutoring, and it really shows. She is very patient, and also a great communicator. They have always assumed that math just wasn't for them, but she is already starting to change their minds.
