"Learning how to learn is life's most important skill." No truer words have ever been spoken. When a child's ability to learn is hampered by a neurological difference, they need to be given special tools to help them decode the world around them.

I have completed training in the Wilson Language System, an Orton-Gillingham-based approach to dyslexia intervention. I am a Level 1 certified Dyslexia Practitioner. This approach is suitable for students from grade 2 through adulthood. Dyslexia tutoring sessions require a minimum of two per week, with three per week being the most effective.

My other focus is literacy and reading comprehension. When a child is able to fully comprehend what is read they are able to find the answers for almost any problem that awaits them. Literacy extends beyond being able to comprehend the written word into interpreting what is written and navigating reference material. I can work with children at any level of reading ability, from just beginning to older students who are struggling.

Soon I will be able to offer ESL/EFL services.

While language skills are my specialty, I am able to work with students in other topics of need or personal interest. I can develop special curriculum depending on their abilities and the skills they need to master. In some cases, more than one skill may be worked on simultaneously in order to help the child achieve a more balanced approach to their own learning habits. I am an experienced Montessori elementary teacher who has had ten years in the classroom serving both lower and upper elementary students.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified Montessori teacher for grades 1-6. I currently run a classroom cover these grades and manage all subjects. I am especially equipped to work with children who are struggling or have special needs as I am able to hone in on their strengths to better enable them to master the material with which they are having trouble.
Handwriting,

Handwriting

I work with children on improving or developing their handwriting on a daily basis. I have experience working with those who are just beginning as well as those who have been writing for several years and need to unlearn bad writing habits.
Phonics,

Phonics

As a teacher for 1st-6th grade students, I must deal with children on many different levels of mastery. I am able to teach children how to read from the ground up using phonics as a base tool. Under my tutelage, students have been able to progress from basic letter sounds to upper first grade reading level in less than four months. I am patient and flexible. I work within the child's capabilities to help them develop and improve their writing skills, ensuring that they see the significance of their progress. I believe in positive reinforcement and showing children that they have the tools they need to learn what ever they want to learn.
Reading,

Reading

I work with children on many different reading levels. Literacy is a personal passion of mine and I realize that there is no "one size fits all" approach that will help children develop their reading skills. I work by first identifying a child's strengths and weaknesses in their reading ability. Rather than drill a child in an area in which they need help, I gently guide them into developing skills by presenting relevant material and keeping the lessons interesting. If one approach isn't working, then it is time to attempt another.
