I have been involved in education for over 20 years. My experience began as a paraprofessional in an elementary school classroom. Since then, I have joined the military and a few of those years involved training soldiers in the United States military. Since separating from my military career, I went to school and attained my degrees. During that time, I tutored students for several years in the ESL communities of the school district in Alaska. After attaining my bachelor's degree, I have been in elementary school classrooms and started working on a graduate degree. While finishing, I have had the opportunity to be hired to work with students who attended community college and graduate school.
Currently, I teach elementary education students, but as you can see, I have a diverse range of students that I enjoy working with on an early childhood all the way to graduate level students. I love to see students start at a beginning point and work to improve their areas of understanding concepts from learning a new language or just increasing their reading or math scores. It is a personal victory to see students improve and be proud of the progress they make over time. I like sharing the moments when the students understand the concepts and they thrive and are well versed in the new concepts such as learning a new topic.
I have always placed English as a strong skill because I enjoy reading and understand grammar and vocabulary concepts. Reading comprehension is also a challenge that I see the millennial students face, given the spurts of information that come at them in this new technology driven age. I can give you time-honored concepts, yet I work hard to maintain a direct contact with technology because I understand my students are growing up in a different era than when I was a student.
