I was raised speaking Russian and English, and immersed in the Slavic culture. I studied abroad, and graduated top of my class in the Germanic-Slavic Dept. of my university when I received my BA in Russian Language & Literature. I traveled the world extensively taking professionals for educational credit, and specialized in the former USSR. I have been to Moscow alone approximately seventy-four times.

I love teaching, especially Russian language, culture, and cooking and feel that by understanding language and culture we can better understand our worldwide neighbors. When we do this the world becomes a smaller place, and we can look at one another with more understanding. I have taught Russian privately and publicly for over thirty years. I currently teach adjunct and lifelong learning at a local university and have taught at two local community colleges, and in other venues. I have taught in NY, MD, and WV.

I specialize in helping to develop pronunciation, as communication and comprehension are essential to language learning. I feel that the student should not compete with other students, but only with themselves. When learning a new language, we learn through our mistakes, and I find it essential that my students take comfort in knowing that anyone can learn Russian. Also, unless there is some handicap, I guarantee my students will speak in complete sentences within minutes. My classes are very interactive and I incorporate interesting short cultural videos into my classes. One cannot learn a language without learning about the culture. I help to bring this to life.

My cancellation policy is 24 hours, and my scheduling is flexible.

As a self-taught mixed-media artist for 29 years, I also teach sewing and other art forms.
I look forward to teaching you through WyzAnt, and helping to bridge the cultural gap between the Slavic culture and ours.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I have already been qualified in this area as I taught GED for five years in the state sponsored SPOKES program in West Virginia. Most of our students were at a 2-6 grade school level. I have taught elementary school students through college.
Spelling,

Spelling

I taught GED for 5 years, and spelling and writing were a part of the lessons. I presently teach elementary school students and have much success with teaching spelling, and having students gain confidence. As a language teacher, I have developed many ways to reach a student, including students with processing/learning issues. My students typically will receive top scores in spelling, even if their strengths are not necessarily in school subjects.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I have a B.A. In Russian Language & Literature with Foreign Language Teacher Certification & ESL Certification. I graduated with a 4.0 and the Russian Award for the Germanic-Slavic Dept. at SUNY at Stony Brook, which is in the top 2% of universities in the world. I taught GED and Life Skills, and ESL with the SPOKES program in WV for 5 years, with many successes in students receiving their GED. I taught test taking, note taking, organizational study skills, and study strategies to mostly young adults, as well as Social Studies, English/Reading & Writing Skills, Science, and Mathematics. Because of the modules that I taught in Life Skills, I had successes in students starting businesses, getting jobs, and taught modules on Self-Esteem, Time Management, Money Management, and other efficiency and organizational tools and subjects for work, study, and home management. Motivational videos, tools, and discussions were a constant responsibility in my teaching.

Kind, patient and knowledgeable

Ms. Lydia has been simply amazing with my daughter and nephew. Right from the start she started to build their confidence in Math. She's shown them new ways to approach Math problems and it's been very helpful. I highly recommend her.
