Bio

I am a Penn graduate, with NYC Certificate of Permanent Appointment & NYS Permanent Certificate Education. In addition to tutoring, I work with the Penn Literacy Network at the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education in New York. A Title 1 Reading Specialist for seven years, my passion has always been to help students learn to read & read to learn, from elementary school to SAT preparation. Growing up 20 miles north of the city, I was instructed by my teachers and parents in American history, government and politics from my earliest years in elementary school.We discussed these subjects at the dinner table, and I continue to teach them, specific facts and language, in my tutoring practice. In celebration of Black History month in February, I introduced my students to the language of the Emancipation Proclamation and Obama's Proclamation 150 years later.

Confidence Builder

Lois was a very patient and supportive tutor. She was quite resourceful in using my daughter's tennis background to build her confidence. The goal was to raise my daughter's SAT reading score in three short weeks. I am happy to say that with Lois' help my daughter achieved a score high enough to make the cutoff for her desired college.
