I have a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. As a recent college graduate, my knowledge is up-to-date in the constantly advancing field of biology. I also have many biology credits in sports and exercise science as I originally planned on going to medical school. As interests switched to wildlife biology, I focused my credits on these subjects and I am still very interested in pursuing a career in this field and love passing on this information. Also, mathematics comes naturally to me and I have taken courses up to calculus and statistics. I recently helped tutor college students in basic mathematics. I have very good teaching skills and I am able to pass on information in a way that creates an understanding for the student. I never pressure students or make them feel bad for not understanding information, but take time to get them on a knowledgeable level in order to succeed. Creative learning through ideas and personal examples help students to associate material with prior learning experiences and feel comfortable going into exams. Research papers are also a specialty and I am capable of teaching students to keep their personality while writing an educational paper, which was very common while achieving biology major.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught reading, writing and mathematics according to school curriculum while developing a better understanding of material that advances students beyond expectations. I have worked with children as they prepare for kindergarten and as they advance through elementary. I have also done some work to helping children with learning disabilities. I like to follow Montessori methods of teaching but also believe that learning concepts by memorization is necessary to establish fundamentals of learning. My methods involve a concentrated hour of explaining all necessary coursework and reviewing previous lessons. Children are rewarded by their interests in subjects and encouraged to advance their own learning.

ADHD

I have been tutoring multiple ADHD students in mathematics, including algebra and geometry. The students see great success and I am told by the parents that nobody can ever really get them to focus and learn like I have been able to. I didn't yawn once!

Prompt, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with! My head was jumbled with thoughts for an upcoming statistical article critique. Garrett was incredibly patient and helped guide me through the process with ease. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for an experienced tutor with a fresh approach. I'll definitely be utilizing Garrett in the future!

Encourages, Teaches, and Transforms

My awesome tutor, Garrett, helped me understand that SAT & ACT Math and Science were much less painful than I thought they would be. Since math and science are not my favorite subjects, my desire to study them for two hours every morning was little to none, but Garrett made my entire experience extremely enjoyable, particularly by putting the math in terms I could understand. He was never frustrated that I needed him to explain the same thing more than once and was always very patient and understanding with me. I would recommend Garrett to anyone who needs an extra hand in math or science, especially students who are “afraid” of math like me! In my future academic endeavors, whenever needed and wherever possible, I will always return to Garrett for help in Math and Science!

Prompt, Professional and Patient!

Garrett was prompt in the email replies. He was available on a weekend, on short notice, during finals at regular fee! He was booked but found a time for us. He showed up on time, was pleasant and my 15 year old daughter (Honors student in IB AP) felt comfortable and learned easily with him. He helped her a lot with AP Trig. We will use Garrett again for tutoring as needed.
