Hi, my name is Giovan Battista (you can call me GB). I was born and raised in Rome, Italy; there I completed my Bachelor's and Master's degree magna cum laude. Hi, my name is Giovan Battista (you can call me GB). I was born and raised in Rome, Italy; there I completed my Bachelor's and Master's degree magna cum laude. In 2015 I moved to NYC to pursue my PhD in Mathematics at CUNY Graduate Center; after several years of intense study I finished and defended my dissertation, officially becoming a Doctor in Math :)
Since then I decided to apply my skills in the industry environment and I currently work as a Data Scientist at a company called Travelport (I bet you've never heard this name before but, in case you have ever booked a flight ticket online, there's a very high chance our servers were working in the backend to help you find the best solution).
Despite the decision of leaving academia, I still find great enjoyment from discussing and teaching mathematics. Throughout my PhD years I served as the official instructor for a variety of college level course at many different schools in NYC (e.g., Hunter College, Baruch College, Cooper Union). In fact, my journey as a math popularizer starts back in Italy where I worked as a tutor both for private clients in 1-to-1 session and for the University I was attending where I coordinate problem sessions for larger groups.
I've always found tutoring a very rewarding experience. Being able to work with a student and witness his improvements has always made me feel very proud. If you are taking a class and you feel you are lost don't despair; you probably need some focused help from a person who can break down each topic in easy and understandable steps: I'm confident I can be that person. Looking forward to start a new and productive learning relationship together. :)
