Bio

Hi, my name is Giovan Battista (you can call me GB). I was born and raised in Rome, Italy; there I completed my Bachelor's and Master's degree magna cum laude. In 2015 I moved to NYC to pursue my PhD in Mathematics at CUNY Graduate Center; after several years of intense study I finished and defended my dissertation, officially becoming a Doctor in Math :)

Since then I decided to apply my skills in the industry environment and I currently work as a Data Scientist at a company called Travelport (I bet you've never heard this name before but, in case you have ever booked a flight ticket online, there's a very high chance our servers were working in the backend to help you find the best solution).

Despite the decision of leaving academia, I still find great enjoyment from discussing and teaching mathematics. Throughout my PhD years I served as the official instructor for a variety of college level course at many different schools in NYC (e.g., Hunter College, Baruch College, Cooper Union). In fact, my journey as a math popularizer starts back in Italy where I worked as a tutor both for private clients in 1-to-1 session and for the University I was attending where I coordinate problem sessions for larger groups.

I've always found tutoring a very rewarding experience. Being able to work with a student and witness his improvements has always made me feel very proud. If you are taking a class and you feel you are lost don't despair; you probably need some focused help from a person who can break down each topic in easy and understandable steps: I'm confident I can be that person. Looking forward to start a new and productive learning relationship together. :)

Math

Differential Equations,

Differential Equations

I have taught a PDE class at Cooper Union and tutor other students taking Differential Equations classes.
Discrete Math,

Discrete Math

When I was a Master's student, I worked for my University and organized Discrete Math tutoring sessions for younger students. In Fall 2016, I have taught a Mathematical Proofs class at Hunter College which involved many topics from Discrete Math. I attend the Discrete Math seminar that runs weekly at CUNY's Graduate Center where PhD students meet discuss some open problems in the subject.
Logic,

Logic

I've taken several Logic classes during my years as an undergraduate and have previous tutoring experience in this subject. During Fall 2016, I taught at Hunter College a Mathematical Proofs class which included many topics from Logic. I often attend Logic seminars at CUNY's Graduate Center.
