Hi! I'm Shelcey! I have been a licensed dyslexia therapist and certified academic language therapist since 2019. I began my training to become a certified reading specialist in 2016. I love seeing kids grow in confidence and in skill. My favorite part of any session is seeing the reaction of students when they experience success. Does your student have inattentiveness or hyperactivity? No problem. Does your child have dyslexia? No problem. I have worked with students reading two grade levels below their current grade and helped them to reach grade level performance with support from parents and, of course, the student giving their best efforts in our sessions. I raise two boys, one of which was diagnosed with ADHD and autism spectrum disorder. My life experience and work experience combined give me an advantage when working with special populations because I know you have to care about the student, not just their academic ability.

I've had a student tell me they scored higher than the "smart kids" on a district-wide assessment after working hard in our dyslexia therapy sessions. One of my students DOUBLED their points scored on district progress monitoring assessments. I implement a Structured Literacy curriculum that is multisensory with explicit instruction. These methods are proven to help students learn to read, write and spell effectively. The specific strategies used are meant for students with dyslexia who require multi-sensory, systematic instruction but the strategies also work for other learning disabled students.

More than half of the students I tutor have attention and focus issues. I am equipped to work with these students through direct, clear expectations, loving support and positive reinforcement. Sessions will include specific spelling strategies that are multi-sensory and the skills build gradually at the student's pace.

Let's work together to help your child reach their academic goals. Contact me today!

I am employed full-time as a licensed speech therapist and recently became licensed in dyslexia therapy in August 2018. These occupations work extensively with specialized populations to include ADHD, dyslexia, autism, communication disorders and learning disabilities. My experience in these fields as well as being a mother to a child with ADHD and autism, I use strategies that will support atypical learners.

I use multi-sensory literacy instruction to build reading, writing, spelling and verbal expression skills in a systematic curriculum. The curriculum is based on Orton-Gillingham methodologies which are research-based strategies shown to improve student performance by increasing neural connections that are needed to perform reading and spelling tasks effectively. I began using these methods under supervision of qualified instructors in 2016 and completed over 800 clinical hours with 10 observations to complete the program for a Master's in Education in Dyslexia Therapy. I passed the national certification exam to obtain the credential of Certified Academic Langauge Therapist in January 2019.

From the start I like Ms Shelcey’s demeanor. Her warm spirit I could feel just from talking to her. My son likes Ms. Shelcey and she is very patient with him. He is making good strides and I can see the improvement. Cant wait to see his growth!

Shelcey really listens to her students and takes her time to get to know their individual needs and interests. Her knowledge of people on the Autism Spectrum is based on her extensive training and personal experience. She keeps the sessions fun and engaging. We highly recommend!
