Hi! My name is Curry and I am currently working on my B.A. in English Literature with the intent to graduate in a year and a half and begin working on my M.A. in Teaching. I spent a year tutoring elementary school students in the rudiments of reading and am now working with middle school students as a substitute teacher while I progress through my undergraduate courses. I have always been a reader and grew into my appreciation for literature in high school. I had a few amazing English teachers that encouraged me to connect my love for reading with my love for writing. They also helped me discover that I learn best through discussion, a realization that has greatly influenced my teaching style.
Critical thinking and communication are two of the greatest skills that a student can develop before entering the work force, and I believe English is a discipline that is ideal for honing those skills. First and foremost I believe reading and writing should be fun! We do the difficult work of learning how words function so we can read and write beautiful texts. I want to take middle school, high school, and college students on that journey. My tutoring sessions will be focused on the needs of students. After determining those needs, I will guide students from rudimentary grammar and reading skills into critical thinking. By employeeing this method, I believe students will learn to process texts in a way that promotes fluid writing.
