Hi! My name is Katie and I’m a recent graduate of Bryn Mawr College, where I graduated with honors in mathematics and a major GPA of 3.85. While I’m relatively new to Wyzant, I grew up helping my sisters with their math homework, and in high school began tutoring other students of all ages. In college, I worked as a TA answering homework questions and teaching the coding lab components of courses.

One of my favorite parts of tutoring is showing students that they are capable of success in mathematics, even when they struggle with the way it’s taught in class. Topics are usually only explained one way, lessons move at the same pace for everyone, and because the subject is cumulative by nature, confusion about specific topics can leave students feeling lost with mathematics in general. This leads them to believe that math is hard and boring, or that they'll simply never be good at it. However I believe that with the right individualized approach any student is capable of success.

I have found that when students can find ways of approaching problems that feel intuitive to them, they can complete their work much more quickly, accurately, and with confidence. They are often excited to realize that the problem isn't them, and with some work, communication, and critical thinking they no longer have to spend hours agonizing over homework or tests. While I don't expect all of my students to share my passion for math, I hope to show them it is an important (and often exciting!) subject in which they are capable of success.

Please reach out to me if you’re interested in working together or have any additional questions, I have an extremely flexible schedule and am excited to begin working with you!
