My name is Angela and I graduated from Queens College in 2013 minoring in education, and majoring in chemistry. I genuinely love teaching chemistry because every single part of our world wouldn’t be here without the basic fundamental elements. I love being able to show students how chemistry relates back to their everyday lives and that it is not just a boring difficult subject. My goal as a both a tutor and a teacher is to make chemistry less difficult and more understandable. I teach my students not only the content needed to succeed, but also general test taking strategies.
Although my full time job is teaching I prefer tutoring. I believe one-on-one time is more beneficial for students because I can differentiate the lesson being taught and cater to individual needs. I have found that students I have tutored in the past find it easier to understand the content outside of the classroom. In a classroom sometimes students are intimidated and afraid to ask questions, but a tutoring situation provides a safe environment where question asking is encouraged and guides the structure of tutoring sessions.
I’ve been teaching chemistry for the past 6 years at a NYC public school in Jamaica, Queens. My school is unique in that the students attending only focus on core subjects such as Math and Science for half the year, before they switch to the humanities block of English and History for the second half. As a result, I technically have taught the same regents course 12 times. Therefore, I am extremely familiar with regents based questions and how the test is structured. Students I’ve tutored in the past have told me that I make the chemistry easy to understand, and simplify a subject they once thought would be impossible to do well in.
