A few words to describe me as a teacher? Fun, experienced, data-driven, silly, up-beat, dedicated, passionate, prepared, published. A few words to describe me as a teacher? Fun, experienced, data-driven, silly, up-beat, dedicated, passionate, prepared, published. I love math most, but have taught a range of contents ranging from 4th grade to high school ELA. I love to make learning fun, accessible, and have a wealth of tips and tricks for all learners.
A little about my background and experience - I double majored in Early Childhood Education and Human Development at Boston College and have a Master's Degree in Special Education from George Mason University. I have taught many things over the years including a 9th and 11th grade special education (ELA), 9th-12th special education (math), high school math resource (special education), 5th grade math, small group reading remediation (middle school), and 4th grade all subjects. In addition to teaching, I also wrote a 5th grade math curriculum that was used across a network of schools in New York state. I was the Special Education Coordinator, managing the IEPs and services received for our middle school. I am also published in Teach Like a Champion 2.0 by Doug Lemov, a book detailing expert teaching techniques.
How will I support your child? I will study their unique strengths and areas for growth to design tutoring sessions. I analyze errors in student work to identify trends in understanding to unearth and remedy any misunderstandings. I prepare specific questions and practice problems designed to address these misunderstandings. I love singing songs to teach things like multiplication facts, long division, rounding, and more to make the content stick. While also fun, these songs and tricks act as the entry point to building a deep-rooted understanding of the material.
I love to have fun while learning and am deeply committed to helping you/your child succeed!
