Bio

I'm a graduate of Bates College (B.A.), the University of Illinois (M.S.), and M.I.T. (M.S.), with degrees in economics and management.

I've been a tutor since 2001, when I started preparing students to take the GMAT, GRE, SAT, and ACT exams. To me, standardized exams are like puzzles: they can be fun and challenging. With a little instruction and practice, you can achieve significant improvement in scores -- and maybe even enjoy them.

I've been a tutor since 2001, when I started preparing students to take the GMAT, GRE, SAT, and ACT exams. To me, standardized exams are like puzzles: they can be fun and challenging. With a little instruction and practice, you can achieve significant improvement in scores -- and maybe even enjoy them.

I also tutor other subjects that I enjoy, and try to bring that enjoyment to the tutoring process. I'm always positive and supportive. Working one-on-one and at your own speed, you'll overcome weaknesses and build confidence.

I have a 24-hour cancellation policy: students who miss a session with less than 24-hours notice are charged for 1 hour at their regular rate.

Most math comes easy to me, but I know math is many students' least favorite subject. Even students who struggle in a classroom can succeed in a supportive one-on-one environment where mistakes don't hurt: they become a means to learning.

They benefit from learning three things: the elements of a strong essay; the process for creating such an essay (which involves planning and outlining, before beginning to write; and the basics that essay graders will be looking for. With good coaching and some practice, most students can quickly build confidence and improve their scores in Writing.

Topics of special interest to me include the events leading up to the Civil War, the Presidency, and the Great Depression. I continue to read extensively on matters involving American history.

Excellent GMAT Tutor

Ken helped me get from the low 700s to a 770 on the GMAT in less than 6 weeks. He started by making sure that I understood the fundamentals of quant and sentence correction. After that, sessions focused on dissecting difficult questions and improving consistency. Logistically, he was great to work with. Scheduling was easy and the Wyzant platform worked well for lessons. He went above and beyond on many occasions. If there was a particularly challenging question that we discussed during a session, he would often send follow-up messages with alternative explanations or other relevant practice problems. Most importantly, he was funny and sessions were enjoyable. If you are looking to improve your GMAT score, you should work with Ken.
