I’m also highly experienced with test prep for the SSAT, HSPT, SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, CBEST, and TOEFL.

My work often involves on-going support for students, helping with executive functioning and organization, note-taking/study skills, staying on top of homework, preparing for tests, and working on long-term research and writing assignments. Many of my students see me for standardized test prep and help with developing personal statements and essays for college applications and graduate school. Other students take French and ESL language classes with me. I definitely cover a wide range of topics every day!

I have a masters degree in social work and a background as a counselor. Over the years, I’ve worked with many students who have a learning difference or ADD/ADHD. I believe that part of my success as a tutor is due to my empathic approach and ability to build relationships with my students. I find it incredibly rewarding to see my students progress, gain confidence with and mastery of challenging material, and improve their writing by developing an individual voice and style.

I also have a black cat named Fiona, and we enjoy doing crossword puzzles together.

Jason is incredibly insightful and helpful. You won't be disappointed.

I’m so relieved to have found Jason. He’s been outstanding in helping me find my way as I start grad school after a 30+ year absence since college. Jason has been incredibly insightful in addressing and working with my previously untreated dyslexia by suggesting strategies and helping me integrate useful software. I highly recommend Jason.

Incredibly skilled, kind, supportive, and patient tutor

After moving to CA from NY, I received a great job offer that was contingent upon my passing the CBEST. I had been out of school for many years, always had math anxiety and was dealing with post concussion memory and processing issues. My practice tests indicated I was headed for failure on the math portion of the exams. Jason was incredibly skilled, kind, supportive and beyond patient with me throughout each of our sessions. He broke the problems down and found an approach that worked for me with each new skill I had to learn. He provided detailed notes, practice homework and was highly organized in his approach. I was over the moon when I read my passing CBEST results. I’m certain I couldn’t have done it without Jason’s support. He’s a gifted teacher and I wholeheartedly him to anyone, especially those who experience the drama of math anxiety! Thank you, Jason!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor who really listens to you

I've asked Jason to help me pass the CBEST exam and especially the math section. Jason listened to my concerns and has presented me with more than just tips to pass the test. I now have problems to practice to help me really understand the math and I can't wait to keep learning more and more until I am confident I can pass the CBEST.

Super bright and fun to work with!

I reached out to Jason in hopes of finding someone to help me prepare for the GRE. I am returning to school for the first time in fourteen years. I was looking for a tutor who would be patient, compassionate, yet dedicated to helping me achieve my goals. Jason is just that and more! He's easy to talk to and incredibly understanding of individual needs. My weakness is in math, having just "gotten by" in both high school and college. Instead of rushing me into problems that are beyond my reach, Jason is methodically working me through the basics. I feel lucky to have a found a tutor that is truly knowledgeable and committed to helping me succeed.

Engaged and mindful of our time!

In my first session, Mr. H. helped me feel comfortable about reaching out for help. I was skeptical about the value of a tutor at this late point in my education. He was engaged every minute of our session, he asked questions to spark my dormant critical thinking skills and I felt comfortable sharing my ideas with him. I immediately bonded with him because he is confident, professional, and enthusiastic about helping others achieve their own best work. With a mentor/tutor like Mr. H. and the loving support of my family, I know I can reach my goal of completing my graduate program. I highly recommend him!
